Inspiring the Next Generation:
Meet our 2023 CID Spring Intern Cohort

To that end, I’m excited to announce our 2023 CID spring undergraduate internship cohort. Our CID internship program reflects CID’s on-going commitment to provide students with hands-on experience working on research that has an immediate and tangible impact on civic engagement and the democracy landscape.

This spring’s interns from USC were selected in a competitive process, and will spend ten weeks contributing to projects in collaboration with CID mentor-researchers.

USC Price Students Protest School Event

On Monday, the USC Price Latinx Student Association (PLSA) voiced its strong opposition to the inclusion of former Governor Pete Wilson as a distinguished guest in today's USC Price School event, "The Legacy and Future of Southern California Aerospace." The recognized student organization called attention to Wilson’s past endorsement of anti-immigrant and anti-equity public policies and said it wishes to hold USC Price accountable for fostering a learning environment that features guests who champion the school’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Lessons from the 2022 General Election: How to Prevent Election Crises, and Emerging Issues for 2023, 2024 and Beyond

A new report from the National Task Force on Election Crises highlights the threats to the upcoming 2024 elections, based on findings from the 2022 midterm elections.

The report details that while greater communication, transparency, coordination and efforts to combat mis- and dis-information generally resulted in a successful 2022 election, threats of election crises still remain and are of serious concern as the 2024 election approaches. The Task Force advises on reforms and preventive measures to prepare and overcome potential election crises in the future.

So far this year, state legislators are continuing the trend of introducing legislation that would restrict access to voting for some people.

A new analysis by the Brennan Center examines 2023 legislative sessions so far this year and finds that legislators have already introduced a record-breaking number of restrictive voting laws.
