A TORAH MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI
|
We have the privilege of finishing the Book of Genesis this week. In our tradition, the ending of one book only means that we are about to begin the next book. It is our way of saying that every ending is really a beginning.
Life is like that. If we look at the things that have ended in our lives, I think we will find that each ending led into a beginning of one kind or another. The ending of a job or a relationship, leaves a door open for the next job or relationship.
This is an important idea to carry with us as we chart the ups and downs of our lives. Thinking of the opening door with its endless possibilities is a positive way of handling endings.
That is just a small thought about this week’s Torah portion. But what I really want you to do is continue to read this message. On Wednesday evenings we have been reading and studying “Judaism’s Life-Changing Ideas” by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. Therein, Rabbi Sacks takes each Torah portion and briefly tells the reader what that portion teaches us about how to view, or live, life. It provides a great platform from which to enter into discussion on the Torah portion, Judaism, and the world around us.
Click here for the life-changing idea that Rabbi Sacks gleans from this week’s Torah portion, Vayechi (I hope that after you read it, you will be given the impetus to join us on Wednesday evenings): Click on the button below to read Rabbi Sacks' commentary.

In this Zoom era, we have been able to have a daily minyan at 8:15 AM and at 7:30 PM and on Shabbat. We encourage you to join us on the day of your loved one’s yahrzeit. In the morning, the service is about ½ hour beginning at 8:15 and in the evening at 7:30 until about 7:45. Rabbi will be glad to say the traditional El Malei Rachamim prayer for you, which is recited during the funeral, going up to the grave of the departed, Yizkor remembrance day and other occasions on which the memory of the dead is recalled. You are also welcome to share with the minyan some special memories of your loved one.
