It's been an exciting February here at The Guild! We held Valentine's Day celebrations complete with card-making activities and treats. We also recognized Black History Month and Low Vision Awareness Month. Adults with The Guild visited museums, painted pottery, and played pick-up basketball. Richard Asztalos Reflects on Over 40 Years with The Guild

Last month, Behavior Clinician Richard Asztalos celebrated over 40 years with The Guild. "I have the same passion for my job and field as I did back in '75," he says. Over the course of his career, Richard has supported hundreds of students at The Guild and beyond to become more independent and reach their goals. Read more about Richard's career on our blog.

Congratulations to February's Guild School Graduates!

Congratulations to Nicholas C. on graduating from The Guild School this month! "It's going to be very sad for us to lose Nicholas, but we wish him the best of luck as he moves on to bigger and better things," says Kevin Jean, Nicholas's teacher.
We'd also like to congratulate Alex R. on graduating this month! "We're going to miss your smile, sense of humor, and strong presence," says his teacher, Sarah Rose.

The Guild Welcomes Two New Senior Team Members
This month, Madyna Rancifer joined The Guild as the Director of Youth Residential Services. Madyna brings nearly ten years of experience in the human services sector as a clinical therapist, social worker, and case manager. She's looking forward to collaborating with her colleagues and engaging in continuous program improvement at The Guild. Read more about Madyna on our website.
We also welcomed Mark Green to the team as The Guild's Chief Advancement Officer. Mark brings over 20 years of experience leading high-performing fundraising teams. He started his career in direct service as a residential counselor with Germaine Lawrence Schools. Most recently, he led development efforts at regional offices for Jumpstart for Young Children and Reading Partners. Read more about Mark here.

Vision Accessibility Initiatives Pave the Way for Students
February is Low Vision Awareness Month, a time to recognize the challenges millions of people nationwide face with low or impaired vision. At The Guild, providers serve students and adults with a range of vision abilities. This year, The Guild School's Occupational Therapy department rolled out initiatives to expand accessibility for students with low vision. Read more about what they've been up to on our blog!

Ask the Expert: The Importance of Trauma-Informed Care
Though research has shown that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities disproportionately experience traumatic events, a recent study demonstrated that the framework of trauma-informed care has yet to be implemented comprehensively across the nation's human services sector. In this month's "Ask-the-Expert" article, we sat down with The Guild's Jennifer Magnuson and Michelle McGonagle to discuss the importance of trauma-informed care and how it's implemented at The Guild.
