February 2, 2022
Lovejoy Community,

Lovejoy ISD schools and administrative offices will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 3rd and Friday, February 4th due to inclement weather and unsafe driving conditions. No in-person or virtual instruction will occur. Afternoon and evening activities and competitions are also canceled or postponed for today, Wednesday, February 2, Thursday, February 3, and Friday, February 4.

School Closure FAQ

Why isn’t Lovejoy ISD utilizing virtual learning during the school closure due to inclement weather?

The Texas Education Agency does not currently provide an option for school districts to count virtual learning as an instructional day. The funded virtual learning options available to public school districts have very specific criteria that limits this option to a small number of students.

When will Lovejoy ISD make up the missed school day?

The Lovejoy ISD school calendar reserves make-up days that can be utilized in the event of a school closure. Monday, February 21, 2022 and Monday, April 18, 2022 are make-up days. Students will attend school on Monday, February 21, 2022 to make up for the missed school day on Thursday, February 3, 2022. Students will attend school on Monday, April 18, 2022 to make up for the missed school day on Friday, February 4, 2022.

I have heard that another school district is not having to use their bad weather days to make up missed school days. Why isn’t this an option for Lovejoy ISD?

School districts are required to ensure students attend school for a minimum of 75,600 minutes. Some school districts have built additional time into their school calendar and therefore do not have to utilize make-up days to achieve the minimum minute requirement.

Will after-school or evening events be held?

If schools are closed, all events will be canceled and rescheduled for a later date.

Stay safe and warm, Lovejoy!

Lovejoy Proud,

Katie Kordel
