Charity Drive

HPHS is preparing for our annual Charity Drive Kick-off this Friday, January 20th.  Students and staff can use this link to find when they should attend and where they should sit for the opening 3rd period.  3rd period teachers will also be sharing this information this week!  Everyone is encouraged to follow Charity Drive @hphscharitydrive via Instagram and Tik Tok!!

Did you know that HPHS has a very unique class called Peer Mentoring that you can take for credit? Learn about disabilities and spend time during your school day as a Peer Mentor. Space is limited. Activities

Are you interested in making new friends, participating in games, and promoting inclusion at HPHS? Join HP Believers and help prepare student athletes from the special education program to compete in a Special Olympics track meet. No experience is necessary. Meetings are after school on Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:15. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, January 18th at 8:00am in the Library. Join Philosophy Club on Wednesday, Jan. 18 as we discuss our Food for Thought Question: "Who owns water?". We will meet in A320 from 3:15-4:30. All are welcome; come share your own philosophy or listen to others as we discuss the philosophy of natural resources! There will be food!


Athletics

Interested in playing Girls Lacrosse this spring? No lacrosse experience is necessary!

We will have a pre-season meeting on Wednesday, January 18th at 3:15pm in A342. If you cannot attend the meeting but want to play this spring, please contact Coach Loewenstein at jloewenstein@dist113.org.


Boys Track & Field begins on Tuesday, January 17th at 3:30pm. We will meet downstairs at the indoor track. Make sure you are registered and have an updated physical. Lacrosse Open Gym will be available every Sunday in the Exhibition gym from 1:30-3:00 pm. The first day is 1/15 and will go till 2/19. Students need to register through rSchool in order to participate. It is open to everyone who wants to try the sport.


Please join us for volleyball open gyms on during 2nd semester in the Giant Gym. The dates and times are linked below. Open gyms are open to any and all HPHS students, but you must be registered on RSchool through the athletics website and provide an updated physical. Attention seniors: Any student who needs assistance completing their FAFSA is encouraged to meet with our Illinois Student Assistance Commission representative. Appointments are available every month with the next date on Thursday, January 26th. These individual meetings will be hosted in the counseling office from 9:00am - 2:00pm. Join us January 31st at 7:30 pm in the DHS cafe for a BRAND NEW program,”Gambling & Teens: Is My Child at Risk?” DPN is partnering with Nicasa Behavioral Health for a presentation about the risks of Teen Gambling and how to spot issues with your own pre-teen/teen. HP Poetry is calling all amateurs, semi-professionals, professionals and students of all age to submit original poetry for their 2023 Poetry Challenge. This year Highland

Park Poetry challenges poets to write a response to one of the following prompts: Flowers,

Architecture (honoring the 300th anniversary of Sir Christopher Wren’s death) and/or Imayo (see attached for the description of this Japanese poetic form). Use this link to learn more. Deadline for submission is January 31st.

Have you ever wanted to attend and experience a Pitch Perfect like event? HPHS will be hosting one of the Quarterfinals of the International Championship of High School A Cappella on February 25, 2023 (7-10 PM).
