WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS

Over the past month, we've celebrated several people making the special commitment of membership. At HBIC, membership means consenting to instruction in Bible doctrine, supporting and sustaining the services of the congregation by regular attendance and prayers, contributing to the program of the church as the Lord prospers, and fostering a spirit of Christian fellowship and oneness within the church. We, as a church family, also commit to supporting them along their journey with Jesus and with the body of Christ.

Welcome to these new members!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Join us in celebrating with Micah and Lynnsi Wagner who were married on May 27! Pray that the Lord would continue to guide them in this new journey together.

STAFF VACATIONS

Pastor Patty will be on vacation through Monday, June 5. If you need assistance, please contact the church office or one of the other pastors!

MOURN WITH THOSE WHO MOURN

Please pray for God's special comfort for Roger Ebanga and family after the passing of Roger's father at 92 years old this past week.

ROOTED

Rooted is a foundational 4-week series providing an overview of Harrisburg BIC, from our history and our commitment to multiethnic community to what it means to participate in the life of HBIC today. This is an opportunity for long-time attenders to gain a fresh vision of who we are as an (ever-changing) community of faith. Rooted can also help newcomers to answer questions and dive into deeper involvement in this community!

Our in-person Rooted classes take place on Sunday mornings at 11am and run for 4 weeks in January, March, May, July, September and November. Sign up for our next Rooted class, starting on July 9here.

FELLOWSHIP DINNER GROUPS

HBIC helps coordinate an opportunity for individuals and families to be intentional about practicing hospitality and sharing meals with one another through Fellowship Dinner Groups. We hope you will consider participating in one of these groups, which generally consists of 8-12 adults, they're a great way to get to know others from our church! To learn more, visit our website. If you'd like to be assigned to a group, please be sure to sign up by Sunday, June 18. Groups will be formed by early July and are encouraged to meet at least once per quarter, four times over the next year (July '23 to June '24). We will be working on comforters for Mennonite Central Committee's refugee relief efforts. Come for the day or a few hours! Optional: Bring lunch, drink, and/or thread-snipping scissors. Contact Kim Mumper with questions!

SUMMER TAPESTRY CHOIR

Have you ever worshipped along with the choir on a Sunday morning and thought, "that looks like fun!" or "I wonder how I can get involved"? Our summer session of choir would be a great opportunity for you to give it a try!

We will be meeting to rehearse on the following Thursdays at 7pm: June 15, 29 and July 6. We will lead in church for both services (9am and 11am) on Sunday, July 16. You'll be provided with lyrics and recordings with which to practice on your own in between rehearsals. To sing on the 16th, you'll need to attend at least 2 out of the 4 rehearsals (but the more, the better)! Check your calendars and let Pastor Hannah know if you're interested in more information!

HELP NEEDED!

The food pantry is in great need of help! The number of those we serve is increasing, and the number of volunteers is decreasing. Please consider joining us in assisting our community in this important way at the following times:

2nd & 4th Wednesdays from 11am-1pm

2nd Thursdays from 10:30am-2:30pm

4th Thursdays from 1:30-5:30pm

If you're interested in helping or have questions, contact Nancy Busch (717-580-0679, grandmanancy@verizon.net).

MISSION OF MERCY

CLINIC VOLUNTEERS

Mission of Mercy operates free medical and dental clinics at HBIC on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, serving the uninsured and underinsured chronically ill with primary medical care and fillings and extractions. Our mission is to restore dignity and heal through love. Mission of Mercy is in need of two volunteers to set up the space in the mornings prior to the mobile clinics arriving.  Mission of Mercy will have a tour on June 1 at 11am at HBIC if anyone wants to learn more about the program. If you’re willing to volunteer or want to join the tour, please contact Jennifer White or call 301-682-5683 x204 .

BABY BOTTLE BLAST

We're collecting coins again this year to benefit the Capital Area Pregnancy Center! Pick up a baby bottle in the lobby to fill, or use your own container and collect between now and June 18 (Fathers' Day)! You can also make a donation online through the HBIC offering or learn more about the clinic here. After June 18, we'll round up the donations at HBIC and take them to CAPC.

SUPPORTING THE CÓRDOVAS

Jen and Jona Córdova are missionaries we, as a church family, support as they serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Oaxaca, Mexico. Recently, their SUV was totaled in a flooding situation. They rely on a high-clearance vehicle to get them over the steep, mountainous roads to reach the Zapotecs to whom they minister, so the loss of the vehicle greatly impacts their work.

They will receive an insurance payment and have some savings on hand, but replacing this vehicle won't be possible without significant additional funds. If you prayerfully consider helping to address this one-time unexpected ministry expense and feel called to do so, you can give toward this need through the church, either online (here) or by marking your donation "Córdova Vehicle."

GROCERY GIFT CARDS

Did you know that you can purchase gift cards for Giant, Weis and Karns through HBIC and we get 5% of the value of the card? We will have a table available in the lobby on the 2nd and 4th Sundays in between services for card purchases. You can also contact the church office or Pastor Lynda to order and we will arrange a pick-up time with you!
