Making a Difference

Highlands Impact!

Start talking about how YOU will make an impact!

Impact Days: December 15th and 16th

Impact Day is a long held Highlands tradition that is a service learning project. During our last Impact Day in 2019 the school packed 65,217 meals. We partner with Harvest Pack, a nonprofit organization that supports volunteers to pack meals for communities suffering from food insecurities. This year will look a little different due to ongoing COVID mitigation.

Do we need to pay for the food we pack? Yes!...0ne Meal = $0.20

This week the student ambassadors shared the topic of money with all classes. There are three ways to raise money:

  • Share what you have
  • Earn it (example: doing chores for family/neighbors)
  • Make a different choice and save the money

Thanks for supporting your child/children around ways they can contribute to this important service project. We only pack food based on the amount of money we raise. Please send any donations into your student's classroom in the form of cash or check (made out to Highlands PTO). We will accept any and all donations. Thank you!

Questions? Contact Annika Joy or Courtney Muehlbauer.

How does your family give back to the community?

Hot chocolate stands? Sewing mittens? Donating toys? Creating placemats? Packing food? How many ways will you make an impact in our community?

We will celebrate all the impacts made by Highlands at the December All School Meeting/IMPACT DAY.

Highlands is inviting all students, families and staff to use this Service Photo/Video Sharing Form to submit pictures and/or videos of any service learning projects you do at home during our Highlands’s December monthly theme of SERVICE. You can also email your Impact projects and photos to Shaun Pakenham as well. shaun.pakenham@edinaschools.org

Staff Holiday Gifts

Look for instructions from your room parents on holiday gifts for classroom teachers and staff!

Highlands Together

Join Today!

Highlands Together is a small confidential support group for the HL community. How it works: When the principal or social worker has a need to support a student or family (school supplies, winter gear, snack, etc.) they will reach out to the point person for Highlands Together and make the request. Then that person sends an email to the confidential distribution list requesting the items or assistance with the need and gives directions on how to drop them off in the office for the social worker, Addie Hakes.

It’s a fantastic way to give and support Highlands and its kids! If you would like to join the distribution list please send an email to rachel.s.lytle@gmail.com with Highland Together in the subject line.
