NEW MPA CURRICULUM
The Marxe School is proud to introduce its new revamped MPA curriculum that will be effective for MPA students starting Fall 2022. The Marxe Faculty have worked tirelessly to reimagine a curriculum that is reflective of public administration in today's context.

What do these changes mean for you?
NEW MPA CURRICULUM
STARTING MPA FALL 2022 & AFTER
New Research Sequence
Data Collection and Description (PAF 9270) is the first course in the research methods sequence. Upon completion of this course, students can choose between Data Analysis for Public Service (PAF 9271) and Causal Analysis and Inference (PAF 9272). You will learn more about PAF 9271 and PAF 9272 and which course makes sense for you.

PART ONE (ALL MUST TAKE)
  • PAF 9270 Data Collection and Description
PART TWO OPTIONS (CHOOSE ONE)
  • PAF 9271 Data Analysis for Public Service
OR
  • PAF 9272 Causal Analysis and Inference
New Core Class
PAF 9165 Race, Inequality, and Public Policies will be a new required core course for MPA students who begin in Fall 2022 and thereafter.

The total number of core classes required for the completion of the MPA degree will be changed to 8 (24 credits).
Specializations
Full-time and part-time MPA students (except Executive MPA students) may choose to focus 9 of their 15 credits of elective coursework in one of the five specializations: urban development and sustainability, nonprofit management, public management, policy analysis and evaluation, and health care policy.
CURRENT MPA CURRICULUM
(BEGAN MPA PROGRAM PRIOR TO FALL 2022)
Below are how the changes will affect current students who are following the current MPA curriculum and started prior to Fall 2022.
PAF 9170 will not be offered after Spring 2022.
PAF 9172 will not be offered after Spring 2023
  • If you did not take PAF 9170 as of this spring, you will take the new course (PAF 9270) and start the new sequence. PAF 9170 WILL NOT BE OFFERED AFTER SPRING 2022

  • If you completed or will complete PAF 9170, it is highly recommended that you take and complete PAF 9172 by the end of Spring 2023. PAF 9172 WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERED AFTER SPRING 2023
PAF 9165 as an Elective
Students who began the MPA prior to Fall 2022 will be able to take this class as an elective. It will not be a required course for graduation.

The total number of core classes required for completion of the MPA degree will be 7 (21 credits).
Concentrations
will Remain
Students who began the MPA program prior to Fall 2022 will still have the option to complete a concentration, if they would like to. You can find the electives that count towards each concentration here.

Students will not be allowed to opt into the new specializations if they started prior to Fall 2022.
IMPORTANT RE-ENTRY INFORMATION
As noted on the College Re-Entry Application, students who were out of school for one term or more are required to follow the curriculum in place at the time of re-entry. This means that if you take a leave of absence on or after Fall 2022, you will return and follow the new MPA curriculum. To be grandfathered into the "old" curriculum you entered under, you will have to submit an academic appeal. Please speak to an advisor before you submit your appeal.
