Operating Engineers Local 30 Offshore Wind Session

This month we had a great Climate Change and Offshore Wind Session with over 100 apprentices at IUOE Local 30's training center in Whitestone. Members from NYC, Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey were thoroughly engaged in learning about NY's clean energy goals, our offshore wind projects, and Local 30's role in the just transition to clean energy.

When we asked the apprentices what comes to mind when they hear "union" it was incredible to see that the number one result was "family." Our labor movement is in good hands with the next generation of workers united in realizing the clean energy economy and doing so by creating union careers for their fellow brothers and sisters. More sessions are to come throughout the year and if you are interested in organizing a session for your local, please let me know.

Change In the Air As Wind Ushers In New Energy Era for Long Island

I had the pleasure of speaking with the Long Island Press about the NY Bight and the role Climate Jobs NY plays in securing good union careers in the offshore wind industry.

As was noted in the piece, "New York State and Long Island, in particular, are becoming the hub of wind energy. The breeze you feel when you walk on the beach could soon be lighting your home and powering your computer."
