When importing goods through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), it's crucial to familiarize yourself with the necessary documentation and compliance requirements to ensure a smooth process.

Start by obtaining a Customs Bond if your imports exceed $2,500, or if you're importing regulated items, as it acts as insurance for compliance with customs regulations. Properly classifying your goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes is essential for determining duty rates and compliance with import regulations.

It's advisable to keep detailed records of all transactions, including invoices, packing lists, and shipping documents, for at least five years to comply with CBP's recordkeeping requirements.
