Welcome to the Charlestown Coalition's Monthly Newsletter!

We are a community-based organization here to support the neighborhood of Charlestown by connecting our neighbors to services, building relationships, and providing fun and safe spaces for community members to connect.

In our newsletters, you'll find event flyers, recaps on what we do on the day-to-day, resources, information on our youth programming, and more. Thanks for following along!

Steering Committee Meeting

The Charlestown Coalition would like to thank everyone who attended our March Steering Committee meeting. We are focused on building more partnerships and enhancing collaboration among Steering Committee members to address, substance use, mental health, and other key concerns represented in the 2022 Boston Community Needs Assessment.

During this month's meeting, we connected with two new partners. We appreciate the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County for presenting to our Steering Committee on a wide range of services they provide to the community. We learned a wealth of information and we look forward to partnering with them in the future. We also want to acknowledge Sober Shuttle, Inc which provides free transportation to support people with their recovery journey.

Our next Steering Committee meeting is on May 28th. We hope to see you there!

Charlestown in Solidarity:

Race and Equity Community Dialogue

This past month's Race Dialogue was another "classic". The question dealt with the current immigration situation that our nation, and many of the major cities across the country, including Boston, are struggling to maintain. This dialogue was filled with honesty, passion, empathy, frustration, and most importantly - Respect. It's what makes this monthly event so unique and beautiful. We are so proud to say that Charlestown is an example to the city!!

Hoping to see you at our next Race Dialogue. Tuesday, April 23rd at 5:30.

Charlestown Trauma Response Team:

The Charlestown Trauma team, in partnership with the MGH Charlestown Health Center, would like to invite you to participate in our Overdose Prevention Training, offered in the Spring and Summer of 2024.

Participants will receive life-saving information on how to identify the signs and symptoms of an overdose, how to support someone experiencing an overdose, and how to administer Narcan. Every person who attends will receive a Narcan kit upon completing the training.

This is in response to our commitment to spread overdose awareness and reduce overdoses, in the Charlestown community. Help us spread the word by sharing our flyers with your family, friends, co-workers, organization, and on social media.

Community Partner Spotlight:

Harvard Kent Wellness Fair

Every year, the Charlestown Coalition participates in the annual Harvard Kent Wellness Fair. This year, the Family Support Circle partnered with Turn It Around to create regulation activities for the event. Turn It Around members gave out coping skills kits, and made box breathing bracelets with students while explaining how and when to use these activities. It was a huge success!

We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Harvard Kent Elementary School for inviting us to this amazing event and for their continued partnership.

Thank you Charlestown Social Workers

for all you do in the community.

FSC Resource E-blast

The FSC e-blast will go out once a month on the 15th of each month. If you would like to add your program's flyers to the next e-blast, please send a PDF version of the flyer by the 12th of each month to MSOTO0@mgh.harvard.edu
