Emmanuel Lutheran Church

Week of

March 31-April 6, 2024

Some traditions are worth keeping, not for the sake of tradition, but for the sake of God’s mission to our broken world. Holy Week is a time set apart for telling, sharing, and celebrating the good news of the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection (1 Cor. 2:1-5). Holy Week is all about the new life in Christ, found in the cross and the empty tomb where our sins are forgiven and our faith is fortified.

Easter is early this year – March 31st! Many centuries ago, the church set the date for Easter based on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring equinox. What matters more though is not "when" but "who and what"! Easter is all about the risen Christ and His victory over death and the grace for all that bend their knee and confess with their tongue that Jesus is Lord (Phil. 2:10-11).

You are invited to join us for Easter at Emmanuel. Bring your friends and get ready to shout “Alleulia!” Easter is a great time to bring guests to church. We have a whole weekend of services for you beginning Saturday at 5:00pm with our Traditional Worship. Sunday morning we’ll gather at 7:00am for Sunrise Worship and the blessing of our new paschal candle! We’ll also have our 8:30am Traditional Worship service and our 10:15am FaithBridge Family Service with Children’s Sunday School at the same time. Come prepared to hear about the “Resurrection of Trembling and Amazement!” We'll see you there!

Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen indeed! Alleluia!

What is the Giving Challenge?

It's an exciting online 24-hour giving event that connects numerous non-profit organizations with passionate donors. The Challenge creates a lasting, powerful impact in supporting these local and diverse causes.

How does it work?

Each organization's giving link will be live for 24 hours, from 12 PM on Tuesday, April 9th to 12 PM on Wednesday, April 10th. During this time, donors can go online to www.GivingChallenge.org to make a secure donation, helping their favorite organization receive special matching dollars and grant incentives. Each gift of up to $100 to any of the participating non-profits will be MATCHED by the Patterson Foundation during the Giving Challenge.

Some of the agencies that we at Emmanuel support that are part of this Giving Challenge are:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Suncoast

Barb's Medical Minute

Summer is coming, and especially for us Floridians, it gets really hot, muggy, and miserable. So, what do we need to do? Drink more water!! I have now gotten used to drinking water, but there was a time when I couldn’t stand the taste of water and drank my 2L. of diet Pepsi every day. Since some of you, like me, may not like the flavor of water, here are some helpful tips. Drink filtered water, whether it is from a filtering pitcher, under the sink filter, or a refrigerator filter. Add flavor like fruit juice, or lemon, or add fruits to a pitcher like citrus, berries, melon, or mint, or cucumber. Add sparkle. Carbonate it yourself with a seltzer maker, or add some from a can, which also comes with flavors. Drink up people, don’t make me turn the hose on you!

Please keep the following people in your prayers:

  • Ellie Boehmer
  • Caroline Giambattista
  • Jim Hightower
  • Tim Huber (Becky Rothgery's brother)
  • Pat Ross
  • LaDonna Whetzel
