Description:

Adolescents are often viewed as the most resistant therapy clients. Creative approaches to therapy such as play and drama, tend to engage adolescent clients more than traditional talk therapy. This workshop will explore how play and drama therapy activities such as storytelling, role play, and puppetry are appropriate ways to engage adolescent clients. It will also explore common themes that are addressed with adolescents such as coping skills, anger management, assertiveness, and healthy relationships, and how to use creative approaches to address these themes.

Learning Objectives:

Identify reasons that may contribute to resistance among teenagers
Identify common themes relevant to adolescent therapy
State the history and theory of drama theory
Describe reasons why drama therapy and other expressive modalities are effective for addressing common adolescent issues
Describe similarities between drama therapy and play therapy
Demonstrate therapeutic drama therapy activities suitable for directive play therapy sessions

Presenter: Krista Verrastro, MA, RDT

Krista Verrastro, MA, RDT has been a Registered Drama Therapist since 2007. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from New York University. She is currently in private practice in Reisterstown, MD. She has worked in a variety of settings, such as outpatient mental health clinics, schools, and nursing homes. She specializes in helping people who feel used, abused, neglected, and rejected. Her goal is to help clients transform from surviving to thriving. Ms. Verrastro presents nationally and internationally about drama therapy and mental health issues.

Cancellation Policy:

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.

CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
