Mayor's Message:

One Plainfield, One Future

Includes All

Mayor MappIG.jpg

Dear Jazz,

We live in a multicultural city, and the residents in our city come from countries around the world, but we are all working towards the same goals. We want a better future for ourselves, our friends, our families, and our community. We don’t just want Plainfield to be where we live - we want it to be where we can thrive. We want our small businesses to prosper, our students to succeed, our neighbors to be healthy, and our homes to have everything we need.

This is what “One Plainfield, One Future” is all about. Whether we were born and raised in Plainfield or migrated from Latin America, The Caribbean, Europe, Africa, or Asia, we were all pulled toward the light of the Queen City because here is where we felt that our future could be bright and full of possibilities. After years of stagnation, we are literally building our new and improved city from the ground up with the construction of residential and commercial spaces that are changing our landscape, improvements to the infrastructure, and upgrades to our recreational facilities.

This Monday, we honor the work of a great man, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who understood that a better future cannot only be dreamed of – it must be worked for. In a speech two months before his assassination, Dr. King said, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve... You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.” How we serve our community is not reliant on our background, it is driven by our willingness to work for it – and the future that we are working to create must include everyone.

In the Queen City, we have people answer the call to serve in their own way. We have educators that take on the challenging task of preparing our children for their futures by sharing their knowledge and passion. We have local business owners that are the backbone of our economy and have invested life savings to be a part of our economic resurgence. We have first responders that put their lives at risk to help others and keep us safe. We have elected officials who invest time and effort to keep the city running efficiently and work to improve the quality of life here. We have neighbors who look out for each other in times of crisis or need. We have people who practice everyday courtesies like holding the door open for one another, picking up trash on the street, or volunteering their time where it is needed. There is no such thing as an act of service that is too small.

Creating a better Plainfield is why I chose to run for mayor ten (10) years ago – this was my answer to the call to create a better future for the Queen City. But I could not have done it without the people willing to show up for me or the people who inspired me to take on this task. One individual person cannot and will not create a better future for our city on their own. Regardless of income, race, gender, age, religion, or sexual orientation, we must work together to create a Plainfield that is better for everyone. Our diversity of backgrounds and ideas is what makes us so much more likely to be able to accomplish the vision we have for the Queen City. We can only do this job together and do it in unity because “One Plainfield, One Future” includes all.

Mensaje Del Alcalde:

Un Plainfield, Un Futuro

Incluye Todos

Saludos,

On January 10th, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President Joseph R. Biden, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met in Mexico City for the 10th North American Leaders’ Summit (NALS). The leaders are determined to fortify our region’s security, prosperity, sustainability and inclusiveness through commitments across six pillars: 1) diversity, equity, and inclusion; 2) climate change and the environment; 3) competitiveness; 4) migration and development; 5) health; and 6) regional security.

North America shares a unique history and culture that emphasizes innovation, equitable development, and mutually beneficial trade to create inclusive economic opportunities for the benefit of our people.
