First Semester Grades
Highlands families,
This Friday, there is no school for students to provide time for teachers to complete report cards. Next Friday, January 28 at 4PM, you will have access to your child’s first semester report card on Infinite Campus via the Parent Portal. If you need help getting on the parent portal, please email parent.portal@edinaschools.org. Below are some clarifying points to help you navigate the report card.
The key on the upper right-hand corner of the report card briefly explains what the 1-4 scores mean. These scores do not equate to A, B, C, D grades, rather they are focused on the level of independence your child exhibits. A score of 1 indicates that your student has not met that outcome regardless of the level of support. A 2 indicates that your student can demonstrate proficiency when given support. Finally, a 3 indicates that your child is meeting the grade level expectation independently and consistently. Rarely are 4s given, especially in academic areas, simply because a 3 indicates that your child is working independently at the grade level expectation. Please refer to the bottom of this letter for a more detailed description of the 1-4 rubric. Hopefully this information helps you better understand your child’s progress for the first half of the year.
Keep in mind that learning is about progress; children learn and develop at different rates and in different ways. Please refrain from comparing your child to their siblings or friends. They all have their own strengths and areas to develop.
