OLLI at MSU and MSU Retiree Association announce the

opening of registration for the following Travel Programs

Exploring Rural Communities in Montana's Central Plains

Registration opens March 1 and closes April 3

Central Montana is one of the most deeply rural places in America. In the communities of Lewistown, Winnett and Roundup, OLLI travelers will meet and learn first-hand from community members about a range of perspectives and strategies for land use, conservation, ranching and community vitality.

Based in historic downtown Lewistown (the geographic center of Montana), participants will explore central Montana's plains, prairies and cultures. These are places where agriculture continues to be the driving force of the area's economy. We will visit with locals in the tiny but vibrant town of Winnett and hear about the innovative projects of Agricultural Community Enhancement and Sustainability (ACES). In Roundup, we will visit a local cattle ranch and learn about the collaborative work of the Musselshell Watershed Coalition. Finally, in our Lewistown base, we will visit the new National Discovery Center, and participants will have time to explore the town and enjoy a meal on their own.

Throughout our travels across Montana's central plains, we'll learn about the Métis and Hutterite cultures of the area, Judith Basin wind energy, Montana's missile silos and more. Trip director Beth Madden will also highlight the array of local opportunities so participants can plan subsequent visits.

Registration is through the MSU Retiree Association. Click or tap here for more information and to register for Exploring Rural Communities in Montana's Central Plains, departs on May 23 and returns on May 25.

Centennial Valley and Red Rock Lakes

Registration opens March 1 and closes April 3

Nestled on the edge of the Continental Divide, the Centennial Valley encompasses a vast array of forest, sagebrush steppe, grasslands, an abundance of wildlife, and the largest wetland complex in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The valley also contains the uppermost point of the Missouri/Mississippi watershed, 3,768 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

Join us to learn about the ecosystems and working ranches in this remote, pristine high-elevation valley in Southwest Montana.

This trip offers a thorough overview of the Centennial Valley's significant natural and cultural aspects. Participants will learn about and meet individuals who live in and manage this pristine ecosystem, including cattle ranchers, the Centennial Valley Association's Range Riders, and managers of non-profit organizations such as the Montana Nature Conservancy and the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. There will be two overnight stays at the University of Utah's beautiful Taft-Nicholson Center in the heart of the Centennial Valley.

Trip activities include guided field excursions, lectures and discussions with local specialists, experiential outdoor learning, evening programs, and morning walks. Homemade group meals and cozy overnight facilities are included.

Registration is through the MSU Retiree Association. Click or tap here for more information and to register for the Centennial Valley & Red Rock Lakes July Travel Program, Departs July 5 and returns July 7.
