STYRO Update!
A ZW newsletter reader wrote in yesterday to say she had taken her Styrofoam to the Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center, only to be met with a sign saying that all Styro was being landfilled for now. We appreciate her sharing that information in order to save the rest of you an unnecessary trip down there.

It turns out the densifier machine that the facility uses to compact the Styrofoam is broken and not expected to be back up and running for several months.

To recap your options, as listed in the previous ZW newsletter,

  • Ridwell subscription allows an add-on Styrofoam collection bag for $9. Currently there are 439 Bainbridge Ridwell members (eight more since the December ZW newsletter went out). If you know a subscriber, try asking if they will order a bag if you pay for it.

Ridwell actually takes more types of foam than we do. Go here to see what they do and do not accept.

Library Borrowing 2.0
Books, CDs and DVDs aren't the only things you can borrow from the Kitsap County Public Libraries, including Bainbridge. Did you know that these items can also be checked out?

  • Washington Discover Pass for free entry into state parks
  • Early learning kits (have a grandchild visiting?) containing such items as puppets, big lacing beads, and wooden puzzle pieces
  • Telescopes
  • Ukeleles
  • Video games
  • And soon...pickleball sets!
