Newhope Students Shine on Stage in Disney's The Jungle Book

Newhope Elementary School students delivered a stunning production of Disney's The Jungle Book. Each performance brought out a packed house and audience members were wowed with students' wonderful, singing, acting and choreography! Each year, several GGUSD schools participate in the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and Disney Musicals in Schools program which selects schools across Orange County to participate through an application process.

GGUSD Welcomes Special Guests for Read Across America

Across the district this week, schools celebrated Read Across America with special guests from the community volunteering to read to students. This annual event inspires students to strengthen their love of reading! At Paine Elementary School (pictured above) students were excited to welcome Garden Grove Police Officers as their guest readers!

Woodbury Elementary Recognized as Unified Champion School

Woodbury Elementary School has earned the recognition as a Unified Champion School by the Special Olympics of Southern California for its unified physical education program that brings general education and special education students together for physical education activities. Woodbury held a special assembly recently to celebrate the distinction as GGUSD's first elementary unified champion school that is focused on promoting social inclusion by bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities through sports and other activities. Northcutt Student Named Spelling Bee Champ

Northcutt Elementary School fifth grade student Joaquin Ablis was named champion of Garden Grove Unified School District’s 35th Annual Spelling Bee for elementary students held on February 22 at the Edgar District Meeting Center. 


Ablis correctly spelled the deciding word, dissipate, to become the top speller among 44 elementary schools in GGUSD. Second place went to Zeyen Elementary School sixth grade student Katelyn Tang.


The Spelling Bee is organized by the Office of K-6 Instruction and includes each elementary schools’ top speller from fourth through sixth grade.

Walton Intermediate Students Enjoy Learning at Sea

Walton students enjoyed another fin-tastic adventure at the Catalina Island Marine Institute Science Camp. Students participated in lab investigations, rock wall climbing, snorkeling, and much, much more!

Gilbert Students Return from Outdoor Science Camp

Gilbert Elementary School families were happy to be reunited with sixth grade students who enjoyed an extended stay at Outdoor Science Camp in Big Bear due to the recent weather conditions. Kudos to the staff who did a wonderful job caring for students during the trip and kudos to the bus drivers who did a phenomenal job getting students home safe!

GGUSD Celebrates Career and Technical Education Month

February was National CTE (Career and Technical Education) Month! GGUSD is proud to offer all 7th-12th grade students amazing CTE pathway courses where they can explore careers of interest, develop real-world skills, earn industry-recognized certifications, obtain early college credits, and engage in work-based learning opportunities. Parents Provide Warm Welcome at Rosita Elementary

Rosita Elementary School is grateful for a dedicated group of Parent Greeters who greet students daily with a smile and provide a warm and caring welcome to school. This is just one of the initiatives of the OC GRIP Program at Rosita, a partnership with the Orange County District’s Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement to support student safety and provide students with mentors.

GGUSD Vietnamese Language Teachers Attend Special Celebration

The Union of Overseas Vietnamese Language Schools (TAVIET) hosted a recognition gala on Saturday, February 25th to honor over 500 Vietnamese Language Teachers and community leaders from across the nation. 20 GGUSD employees from both K-6 and 7-12 levels were honored for their ongoing dedication and commitment to fostering students' language proficiency and cross-cultural understanding. A special thank you to GGUSD Board Trustee Lan Nguyen who helped coordinate the event.

PARENTS: GGUSD has partnered with Fresno State to offer Parent University, a series of online courses offered FOR FREE to GGUSD families. The next round of classes begin March 6th.


Topics include English Conversation, Spanish Conversation, Digital Literacy, Financial Literacy, Social & Emotional Wellness, Health & Wellness, and Small Business Development. Classes are offered twice a week for four weeks via Zoom. Each class is 2 hours. Classes are offered in English and Spanish.
