Passing the Health & Wellness Torch

It is with both sadness and excitement that we announce the passing of the Health Coordinator torch! After 25 years of administering the Health & Safety program, Cathy 'Fleet' Romano has passed the job on to the next generation. Andrea 'Kitty' Lewis received the keys to the Health Centre from Cathy in a recent ceremony.

We Do Docks Also Does Donations!

If you need a dock this spring don’t forget John Armstrong of, We Do Docks! Not only can he design and install a dock to meet your needs, but part of your purchase will come back to us!

John will donate a portion of his dock installations to us so that we can buy equipment for the waterfront program and repair our own docks!

Rotary Clubs Come Together to Help Prep

Getting our facilities ready for Summer Camp is a complex undertaking!

We have two full-time staff members taking care of all our property needs. They are responsible for 190 acres of forests, wetlands, trails, 20 buildings, plus a multifaceted septic and water system, mechanical systems, as well as our Environment Centre located adjacent to Trent University.

Luckily, our local Rotary Clubs (Peterborough, BEL, and Peterborough-Kawartha) have provided some hard working, enthusiastic volunteers to assist with site preparations to get us ready for opening day!

We thank them for their dedication, time, and talent – this makes all the difference as we get ready for another busy summer!

Sad News for the Camp Kawartha Family

It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the recent passing of a Camp alum – Nicole 'Wisp' Fortin. Nicole was a ‘camper’ to her very bones starting as an enthusiastic and fun-loving camper then becoming a counselor.

To honour Nicole, we will be installing a ‘buddy’ bench. Schools use these as a place where students can go to signal to others that they may be feeling sad, lonely, isolated.

Camp Kawartha... in a Nutshell

This is the 3rd installment of our ‘In a Nutshell’ series which tells you about the many activities and programs that we have available.

Did you know that Camp Kawartha provides outdoor learning opportunities for school classes at their school? We’ve visited over 20 schools this past year, delivering programs such as Adaptations, Patterns in Nature, Renewable Energy, Flight and more.

All these programs are linked to the Ontario Curriculum. As well we’ve provided a series of Teacher Workshops to showcase how the schoolyard can become an extension of the classroom.

Nature Showcase

The American Mink

Driving to the Camp the other day we saw a mink dart across the road with a mouse in its mouth. It was fast and disappeared quickly in the grasses and bush by the side of the road. Sleek and a beautiful brown its fur glistened in the sunshine.
