A Message from Katherine Kerr: January 28, 2022
Dear Friends,

Like many of you, I enjoy a good character-driven novel, movie, or television show. There’s something about getting a glimpse into the life of another person, even if I know they’re not real, that helps me gain perspective on my own life or on the world around me. And I’m constantly amazed at how often something in popular culture illuminates elements of the life of faith.

A story doesn’t have to be expressly faith-based for it to say something to us about living faithfully in this w0rld, and Ted Lasso is an excellent example of this truth. Thanks to our sermon series Gospel Lessons from Ted Lasso, we’ve enjoyed brief bits of the popular Apple TV series while considering what scripture has to say about forgiveness, unity, curiosity, and hope in the past few weeks.

This week, we’ll look at the importance of human relationships, particularly in the context of family and friendship. You don’t need to have watched a single episode of the series to relate to this topic, and I hope you’ll plan to join us in person or online as we put a brief moment from the show in conversation with scripture.

Serenitye will be preaching in the Chapel at 8:45 a.m., using this scripture as her basis. I’ll be preaching in the Sanctuary at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m., and for the Fellowship Hall service at 11:00, from this passage from John’s gospel.

Session has called a Congregational Meeting at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary to present the annual budget and to vote on any proposed changes in terms of call for the installed ministers.

I hope you have a good weekend, snow or no snow, and I hope to see you Sunday!

Take care,
