It seems to me that education has a two-fold function to perform in the life of man and in society: the one is utility and the other is culture. Education must enable a man to become more efficient, to achieve with increasing facility the legitimate goals of his life.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

Get Involved On Campus!

Whether your student wants to get involved in sports, volunteering, cultural groups, greek life, leadership or academic interests, there’s a club or organization ready to welcome them. Here are ideas to share with your student as they start their spring semester.

Do some research.

Encourage your student to go online to suu.edu/stil or stop by the Student Involvement & Leadership Center (ST177) to find out about what their options are.

Ask questions.

When they find something that interests them, encourage them to ask about how they can join, what the time commitment is, and if it costs $ to join.

Reach out at any time.

Students can usually join clubs at any point in the semester. So even if it's half way through the semester, encourage them to reach out.

Support other activities.

Encourage your student to support their friends by going to their events as well. They will meet new people and maybe they will find something they want to try.

Finding connections can make a big difference in your student's experience while at college. Encourage them to ask for help if they're not quite sure how to get involved. We are here to help.

IS YOUR STUDENT LOOKING FOR A JOB?

If your student is looking for a job, send them to our

local job fair. If they need help with their resume send

them to the career center.

SUMMER CLASSES

By enrolling in classes over the summer, your student can check off those generals they’ve been meaning to take, focus on the more difficult classes, boost their GPA, and speed up their graduation date. FAFSA can cover the summer semester as well so they can use those funds wisely to help them get ahead in school. Plus, summertime in Cedar City can't be beaten! With the world's best backyard to explore and dozens of festivals to attend, there is always something to do.

Summer classes can be fun too! We have a wide range of classes like backpacking, climbing, yoga, etc. If your student needs to take generals, there are online options as well! Encourage your student to talk to their academic advisor if they are interested.
