GREAT POWER
Just before his ascension back to heaven’s throne, Jesus told His gathered followers (about 400) in Acts 1:8, “…ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me…”
The purpose of our witness is to win souls to Jesus. After the Holy Ghost outpouring in Acts 2:4 this power was demonstrated. On that day of Pentecost, 3,000 people were saved (Acts 2:41) and about a day or so later another 5,000 were saved (Acts 4:4).
This Holy Ghost outpouring was a baptism of power. Tongues were the physical manifestation, but the spiritual manifestation was the purpose for it. Manifested were (1) souls saved which amounted to about 8,000 in about two days, and (2) miracles, signs and wonders (the lame man of Acts 3).
Jesus was given all power in earth and the heavens by Father. He has given that authority to us through His name. The Holy Ghost baptism of power is how we access all His power. The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are the outworking of that power.
When I was a child, our Pentecostals were caught up in seeking the tongues instead of the power of the Holy Spirit to work in us. I realized when I was 23 the discrepancy in our focus. I needed His power to minister for Him. That is when I truly received it.
Folks, please do not seek the tongues. Seek the fullness of Jesus’ power; the tongues will follow. You can then fulfill Jesus words of John 14:12 where He said, “…He that believeth on Me, the works that I (now) do shall he do also and greater works than these shall he do…”
After the apostles and believers were baptized in the Holy Ghost Acts 4:33 says, “and with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.”
This Holy Spirit baptism of power is so that we can be the most effective workers for the Kingdom of heaven and for Christ.
