Membership renewal is underway. Be sure to renew if you haven’t already done so - a personalized link was sent to you on January 16, 2023. As you will have seen, the membership period has changed from a calendar year (Jan to Dec) to twelve months from date of joining / renewal.

Another ‘new for 2023’ member benefit is that virtual library access is available free to all members – no more additional fees to take advantage of all the virtual resources on our website. We hope you will continue to invest in the acquisition of leading edge knowledge and best practices through opportunities that ISOPP provides. These opportunities are not only offered through the Society’s educational events, but also through its Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (JOPP), this newsletter, the Virtual Library and the Virtual Journal Club.

An impressive election slate has been put forward for 2023 ISOPP Election. Please take the time to vote. The election closes on February 2, 2023, and you must have renewed your membership in order to vote.

Please join us for our Annual General Meeting on Friday March 3, 2023 – either in person at our Symposium in Seville or online. We will share upcoming activities ISOPP’s leadership has planned to achieve the Strategic Plan objectives as we forge ahead on our quest to improve the lives of patients in our care and to positively impact the practice of oncology pharmacy.

To our new members (and existing too): you are most welcome to join our committed team of volunteers! It’s a rewarding way to meet your global colleagues and enhance your practice and career. Have a look at the About page of the website for a list of Committees and Task Forces to find the right one for you.

Please spread the word about the value of ISOPP and encourage others to become members. Look for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter posts and be sure to log in to the website for news and events.

On behalf of the ISOPP Secretariat, Chairs of Committees, Task Forces and our Society Management Office, we want to wish you all the very best for 2023.

ISOPP feedback on Social Media Language - Survey
By Netty Cracknell, Chair, Engagement & Communications Committee

ISOPP wants to communicate better with our members in non-English speaking countries. Get ISOPP messages in a way that works for you. Tell us what you think in the quick survey sent this week to members in non-English countries.

We need your feedback. Please take 2 minutes to help us connect more effectively with you and others in oncology pharmacy worldwide.

We value your opinion greatly and ask you to give us this feedback to help us achieve our goal of communicating more effectively with our members and oncology pharmacy stakeholders worldwide.

Please contact us at membership@isopp.org if would like to participate and did not receive the survey via email.
ISOPP is honored to formally endorse the FIP commitment on building vaccine confidence.

FIP has noted that vaccine hesitancy is a major threat to global health and an important barrier to the success of vaccination strategies worldwide. They say vaccination strategies will not be universal and fully successful until the global challenge of vaccine hesitancy and complacency is adequately addressed. Addressing vaccine hesitancy, building vaccine confidence and effectively communicating the value of vaccines to patients is an imperative for global health and for the pharmacy profession in particular.

This document states the commitment of FIP and pharmacists worldwide to counter vaccine hesitancy and misinformation by leveraging pharmacists' expert knowledge and trusted position in communities.

This commitment can be used to highlight this role to the World Health Organization and other stakeholders, and to support FIP member organizations at country level in advancing and highlighting this important role of pharmacists, especially as so much hesitancy to vaccines has arisen in recent times.

FIP will present the commitment with the endorsements at an online summit on "Vaccination needs of special-risk groups" - an intersectoral roundtable event.

ISOPP Advocacy Committee Update

By Esin Aysil Kandemir, Pharmacist, Turkish Medicines And Medical Devices Agency, and Chair, Advocacy Committee

With a new year ahead, the Advocacy Committee is in close collaboration with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO). The Cancer Manual includes resources adapted treatment regimens for low- and middle-income countries and is also linked to the WHO Essential Medicines List (EML). It will be developed in collaboration with WHO in the following months of this year.

The members of the Advocacy Committee will also participate in the working groups of the Cancer Manual and will represent ISOPP. Karunrat Tewthanom from Thailand takes part in the Lung Cancer Working Group, while I joined the essential medicines list (EML) cancer working group. Alexandre (USA), Monica (Malaysia), Lisa (USA), Mario (Brazil), and Amah (Ghana) are currently working on the anti-emetic recommendations for the Cancer Manual.

Besides that, the Advocacy Committee will be starting to work on the survey/audit of compliance to ISOPP Standards for the Safe Handling of Cytotoxics (doi: 10.1177/10781552211070933) in collaboration with the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC).

Another task is writing a position paper about the healthcare disparities between high-income countries and lower- and middle-income countries due to the healthcare professional exodus. We will create a working group in a short time and start with the position paper.

If you are interested in joining the Advocacy Committee, feel free to contact me (esaykandemir@gmail.com) or John (john.wiernikowski@gmail.com).
