A Message from our VP of Academics and Ed Tech

To the Carondelet Community -

This is such a busy time of year with scheduling meetings happening and so much to celebrate and honor on campus. I will start by sharing out a preview of two important events this coming week and then finish with logistics and opportunities for families to provide feedback.

Ash Wednesday

This Wednesday we will observe Ash Wednesday with a liturgy. Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent. This is not a Eucharistic mass, but ashes will be distributed. At this liturgy, our students will also be introduced to our schoolwide Lenten project, which is a Carondelet tradition. Every year, the school works together as one in service to the dear neighbor to meet the needs of our greater community.

BSU Event

On Friday, we will create a special B-Lunch schedule that will allow our BSU club to run an interactive celebration in honor of Black History Month. We will have some student films, games, treats, a student art room, and a slideshow with important historical figures.

WASC Survey

Carondelet is an accredited organization. We have a dual accreditation of WASC and WCEA. WASC is the general school accreditation and WCEA is the accreditation that focuses specifically on our Catholic identity. These two accreditations run simultaneously and involve having the school do a deep dive into practices in all areas of the organization to identify areas of strength and potential areas of growth.

The process requires input from all stakeholders. This input will come in several forms:

  • We will incorporate feedback from prior surveys and focus groups held during the 2021-22 school year
  • We will collect surveys to engage as many people as possible (once now and once again in the fall)
  • We will have small focus groups working on the WASC document
  • We will open up the WASC document for feedback from all families
  • We will do a presentation in the fall of 2023 and invite parents to come learn more
  • We will include a group of parents from our focus group to meet with the WASC representatives in February 2024

This email is an invitation to participate in the first survey. We know your time is valuable. We really appreciate all parents/guardians taking the time to take the survey before March 1.

Our partnership with parents is a vital part of our community, and we really appreciate the feedback and support through this accreditation process. We look forward to inviting you to more opportunities to participate in the process in the future!

Reminders + Requests

Closed Campus, No Food Delivery

A reminder that per our student handbook, for the security of our students during the school day, Carondelet High School is a closed campus. This means food delivery services are not allowed on campus and will be confiscated.

Parking Lot Reminders

To help with traffic flow at the exit, we ask that parents and carpools please use the main gate entrance when entering the lot in the mornings and do not park in any numbered parking spaces as these are all accounted for by students, faculty, and staff. Drivers should leave the campus through the back gate.

New Academic Calendar Available

The 2023-24 Academic Calendar is now available on our website.

Its Almost Carondelet Giving Day

Giving Day is Wednesday, March 8

The heart of Carondelet is many things to many people, but it centers around our students. We invite you to share the heart of Carondelet and participate in our 24-hour campaign to support our students in a special way. This year we have a cohort of generous donors who will match every $1 donated, so all gifts have 2x the impact!

The class with the highest participation wins a pizza celebration!

We will also be hosting a phone-a-thon to encourage fellow parents, grandparents, alumnae, friends, everyone to participate in this exciting event! Parents, you're invited to join us with your daughters! Students may sign up on MobileServe and receive service hours. Shifts are available on March 7 and 8 from 4 - 8 PM. Email Lynne Kenny '86 to schedule.

P.S. Too excited to wait? Make your early bird gift now and be counted towards our goal and receive TWO heart of Carondelet water bottle stickers!

Campus Ministry

Junior Immersion: Monument Crisis Center

Since early February, students have volunteered at Monument Crisis Center and their Food Distribution Program. These students organized the warehouse, packed grocery bags for the Center's clients, and heard a presentation from Cheryl DeSimone who shared the Center's work with the low-income community in Concord. Through this fantastic experience, students have been able to analyze the complexity of homelessness and food insecurity as well as recognize the Gospel Values that call us to serve our dear neighbor without distinction in our community. Thank you to Vanessa Miranda (Campus Minister for Community Service), Lacy Matthews, and Nikki Griffith (Symbols & Ethics teachers) for leading this reimagined Junior Immersion Experience!

Ven a Ver Applications Closing Soon

Applications for our spring immersions are now accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Read more and apply for our spring immersion trips: Ven a Ver Borderlands (juniors and seniors) and Ven a Ver Fruits of Labor (frosh and soph) here.
