Hello St. Alphonsus,

Cardinal Cupich's Statement

This week, the Illinois Attorney General’s office released its report on the Illinois Catholic dioceses’ response to the child sexual abuse crisis. The nature of the report and the media coverage it has generated are certainly causes of pain and concern for all. Cardinal Cupich has issued a statement that will be provided here and in bulletins of all parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago. You can also find more resources here.

Our pastor Rev. Steven Bauer shared his reflection on the report and more in this weekend's bulletin.

Celebrate Sunday Mass at

St. Alphonsus!

In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This Gospel reminds us that the Church is called to be a reconciling presence in the world. The reconciling presence of Christ is celebrated in the Church’s sacramental life. In the Sacrament of Baptism, we are cleansed of sin and become a new creation in Christ. In the Sacrament of Penance, the Church celebrates the mercy of God through the forgiving of sins. This reconciling presence is also to be a way of life for Christians. In situations of conflict, we are to be agents of peace and harmony among people.

Father Bauer and our St. Alphonsus parish and Alphonsus Academy & Center for the Arts staff wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day holiday weekend! Both the rectory and school will be closed this Monday, May 29. Please note that Daily Mass on Monday will be at 9:00 AM instead of the customary 8:30 AM.

Reconciliation is available each Wednesday during Adoration from 6:30-7:30 PM and on Saturdays at 11 AM.

Daily prayer keeps you in good relationship with the LORD, and yourself.

Invite your friends/loved ones to Mass! Sunday Mass schedule in English is at 9 AM, 11 AM, and 5 PM. Mass in Spanish is at 12:30 PM.

Ministers of Care

Are you interested in serving our St. Al’s community in a special way? We are currently looking for volunteers to be part of the Ministers of Care ministry at St. Al’s! Volunteers will bring Holy Communion to parishioners that are sick or homebound on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis. Typically volunteers have brought communion Monday after the 8:30 AM mass, however, the timing could be adjusted based on the volunteer’s schedule. It takes about 90 minutes to distribute communion depending on how many parishioners you are visiting. Please contact Stephanie Sullivan for more information!

Become an altar server!  Students 4th grade and up who are trained to become altar servers will be able to serve on Sundays and school Masses. Experienced servers can also serve at weddings and funerals (which includes a $10 stipend). Please feel free to reach out to me.Thanks for considering it! - Fr. Pat

Our parish will be hosting Wedding Coordinator training sessions in June. If are interested in serving as a wedding coordinator, contact Kaitlin Holyk.

Reading the Catholic Imagination is an online summer reading and discussion series for readers and writers to explore together the Catholic literary imagination in its myriad forms: in new work by self-professed Catholic writers; in the crossings and convergences of old and new work, religious and secular; and in our own habits of reading. This series is hosted by the Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage of Loyola University Chicago and is led by three excellent emerging scholars of the Catholic literary tradition. This series is free of charge and open to the public.

In what has become a national story, the MLB franchise L.A Dodgers are inviting a group that mocks our faith to their Pride night in June, earning rebukes from well-known religious leaders such as Bishop Barron and others. Call on all Catholics and people of goodwill to stand against bigotry and hate in any form and to stand for respect for one another and for religious beliefs of our communities of faith!!
