Imagine Children's Museum Expansion will Positively Impact Community

Nancy Johnson, Executive Director of the Imagine Children's Museum, recently joined Economic Alliance Snohomish County for a December Coffee Chat. Nancy shared updates on the recent and ongoing expansion project underway at Everett’s Imagine Children’s Museum. The Imagine Children’s Museum expansion will be home to two new floors filled with galleries and a 3rd floor eating and multipurpose space. Galleries include:

STEM Like Me, To Go! Presents
 
Alyssa Jackson, Snohomish STEM Network Manager, presented the new gamified ‘STEM Like Me, To Go!’ program to 7th grade students at Centennial Middle School in December. Students explored STEM careers and learned about the career pathways needed to get there. Connecting students throughout Snohomish County in 2022 and beyond.

WSU-E Girls Discover STEM Day

WSU Everett hosted a FREE STEM event on October 30, designed to increase interest in engineering among 10th, 11th & 12th grade female students. As one of the partners for this event, the Snohomish STEM Network supported outreach and turnout for the event; high school counselors directly connected to students for invites and support completing the registration. Thank you counselors!  
 
Students had a great time engaging with hands-on activities and learning directly from WSU Everett faculty and students. Watch for future events for younger students coming soon!

Snohomish STEM Summit / Business Resiliency Forum

The Snohomish STEM Summit took place on November 3rd in partnership with Economic Alliance’s Business Resiliency Forum. This free virtual event focused on building local workforce and resiliency to thrive in 2022. View the STEM Summit on YouTube. Edmonds School District Financial Aid Night

In partnership with the 12th Year CampaignEdmonds School District hosted a breakout room on November 17 for students, parents, and caregivers to ask questions about financial aid and learn about applying to colleges and programs. The Snohomish STEM Network supported outreach and turnout for the event through postcard mailers and social media.

Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Edmonds/Everett Construction Pre-apprenticeship Program is now accepting registrations for the next session, January 5 - March 17, 2022, with classes from 7:30 am - 2:00 pm. Classes will be held at the Advanced Manufacturing Skills Center (AMSC) at Paine Field, 3008 100th St. SW, Everett.  
 
There is NO TUITION COST for students! $5000 tuition cost will be covered by generous sponsors: Sound TransitCity of EdmondsCity of LynnwoodEdmonds College, and others. 
 
Successful completion of this program leads to a certificate in Construction Trades Apprenticeship Preparation.

Washington Data Bootcamp

Organizations agree to collaborate on Washington Data Bootcamp to provide opportunity for highly competitive career opportunities in Snohomish County. The NW Innovation Resource Center (NWIRC), Quanta Logica (QL), Workforce Snohomish (WFS), and Washington State University Everett (WSU) have signed agreements to collaborate on an education program that will provide career opportunities in the field of data analytics. 
 
The parties intend to launch a Data Analytics Bootcamp which they anticipate will provide easier access to the education required to work within this well paid, high-demand career. Data Analysts have the skills to mine volumes of data to expose information that can be utilized for strategic business decisions based upon facts.

Women in STEM Documentary

NW STEM and Skagit STEM Network developed a Women in STEM documentary, “See Yourself in Me,” as well as classroom materials that highlight the incredible opportunities for Women in STEM! 
 
This 34-minute, highly engaging video captures the power of Women in STEM in our community and highlights career professionals, post-secondary and K-12 students pursuing high demand STEM jobs, and programs of study available at the region’s higher education institutions and apprenticeship programs.

Help the PUD Choose Their New Mascot

Snohomish PUD is choosing a new mascot, and they need your help! Their new mascot will be used at community events and in their electrical safety and conservation educational programming. Members of Team PUD have narrowed the choices down to three finalist concepts: Bigfoot, Squirrel, or Transformer.  
 

Girls Who Code: Computer Science Opportunities!

As an international non-profit, Girls Who Code offers free and flexible computer science opportunities for your students with a strong emphasis on social emotional development.  
The Girls Who Code Clubs program for 3rd-12th graders provides educators with free coding curriculum, resources, and training. Learn more about the Clubs program or join a webinar.   

The virtual Girls Who Code Summer Programs offer introductory or advanced computer science courses for 9-12th grade girls and non-binary students to get an inside look into tech careers through our company partners like YumBrands and Bank of America.

Join NASA astronauts/engineers & the LEGO Space Team to kick off an out-of-this-world STEAM learning series!  
 
Build To Launch” is a 10-week digital learning series exploring the technology, STEAM concepts and careers behind the Artemis I mission to the Moon. Through open-ended lessons, students will get hands-on experience and solve problems similar to those the Artemis I team members face as they build toward launch.

Census Facts: Refreshed State Facts for Students Tool
Did you see the announcement about the refresh of our fan-favorite data access tool, State Facts for Students? It’s the perfect tool for students to explore leading up to the holidays. Students can look at national and state data in the familiar table view or with a visualization of interesting facts along a colorful road.  
 
With this tool, they can discover information about their state’s population, geography, businesses, and history, or look at data changes over time.  
 
Cool fact: In 2010, there were 404 ice cream and frozen dessert makers in the U.S. and in 2019 that number increased to 441.

CATTs on the Prowl!
WSU and Clemson University students are teaming up through Cougars and Tigers Together (CATTs) to inspire future engineers. With Boeing support, they will spend the year collaborating virtually on a project similar to what our teammates do each day!

Passport Financial Aid Program

Have you been in foster care? Or were you homeless without a parent or guardian? The Passport to Careers program helps Washington students who have been homeless or in foster care prepare for careers.  
 

Financial Aid for Students who are Immigrants, undocumented, or have DACA

In Washington, students don’t have to be U.S. citizens to get state financial aid or resident tuition. There are different ways to qualify for immigrant students—including those who are undocumented.

The Museum of Flight is the first site to exhibit NASA’s full-scale replicas of the Agency's newest robotic explorers on Mars—the rover and helicopter, Perseverance and Ingenuity.
 
Perseverance and Ingenuity will be on display in the Charles Simonyi Space Gallery from October 29, 2021 through April 3, 2022!
