The Time of Easter
As a church, we will celebrate the Time of Easter. The Time of Easter invites us into the story of Jesus’ sacrificial death and His glorious resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus gives proof that our salvation has been completed and that our hope for eternal life with God is secure.
Easter was THE major celebration of the Early Church, which also set aside a period of preparation to celebrate the Feast of the Resurrection of Our Lord (Easter). Lent, was a period of preparation first prescribed for baptismal candidates. During this period, the candidates were examined in preparation for Baptism at Easter (or Paschal) vigil. Later, these forty days were associated with Jesus’ forty days in the desert prior to His temptation (Matthew 4:1-11) and with the forty years the children of Israel spent in the wilderness (Numbers 14:34) The Lenten season then becomes a period of preparation for every Christian.
The Sundays during this season are not “of Lent” but “in Lent.” Thus the Sundays retain an Easter tone, and may be less solemn than the midweek services that congregations typically offer. The observances of Lent are concrete reminders of the greater solemnity of this season, yet Lutherans emphasize the Gospel of Christ as central even to this penitential season.” (From the Pastoral Desk Diary 2022 pages 66-67)
This year during the Lenten time of Easter we will look at Joseph, the first child born to Rachel, the wife of Jacob. Much of the last twenty chapters of Genesis is the narrative of the life of Joseph. God used Joseph to save the sons of Jacob from starvation. Joseph is an example of perseverance and remaining faithful to God. Joseph was beaten and sold into slavery by his brothers. He was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife. Yet Joseph remained faithful to God.
Joseph, by God’s grace, was an interpreter of dreams. He was elevated by Pharaoh to hold the highest administrative position on Egypt. From that position of leadership, Joseph was able to rescue his family from severe famine. Joseph was a man of God. Through trails and tribulation God used Joseph to accomplish His purpose and deliver the house of Israel.
Jesus is the Son of God. He saves us from our sin. He humbles Himself. Jesus takes our sins to the cross. God accomplishes His purpose and delivers the house of Israel. Even during trials and tribulation we can be confident that God will accomplish His purpose. We learn from Joseph to rely on the power and promise of God. We remain faithful in all circumstances.

Along the way through the Old Testament, and in the Book of Genesis, we get a foreshadowing of our Savior’s redemptive work through the people the Lord would use to fulfill His mission and purposes. Throughout the Lenten time, we will journey with Joseph in Genesis, and through his experiences we will be brought to the cross of Christ. We will see how like Joseph, Jesus will be rejected, abused, yet also ultimately raised up. Like Joseph providing food for the nations, Jesus provides nourishment for those spiritually starving. Like Joseph forgiving his brothers, Jesus will bring forgiveness and reconciliation for the world. But unlike Joseph, Jesus will do all things perfectly in His journey to the cross carrying the sins of the world.

Our Church’s New Mobile App is Here!
We’re excited to announce Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church has upgraded our mobile app! Vanco, our eGiving provider, has launched an updated mobile app called Vanco Mobile to replace GivePlus Mobile. You can download the Vanco Mobile app for free from the App Store or Google Play. From there, you can make a one-time donation or set up recurring giving right through the app. Just select your fund, the amount, enter a payment method and complete the donation. Please download Vanco Mobile by April 30. Vanco will be retiring GivePlus Mobile after this date. If you have questions or need assistance with our new mobile app, please call Linda Richards at 913-837-6428.
Any previous recurring donations are not affected and will continue as scheduled. You will just need to use the new app to make any changes to that recurring donation.
Your previous online giving app registration/log in will remain the same by using the e-mail address and password you have used previously.
Council Openings!
Have you been looking for a way to serve but don't know how to get involved? Currently, the Council has three openings and is searching for the right person to fill the slots.
Board of Worship Chair--Help shape the worship service by taking the lead in all things musical.
Board of Caring Chair--Plan and coordinate meals for Advent, Lent, funerals, special events and for those in need.
Facilities Board Chair--Help keep the church in tip top shape by planning and facilitating repairs and maintenance of church, community center and grounds.
