School Board Appreciation Week
March 14-18

The Jefferson City School System is fortunate to have six school board members who dedicate their time and effort to improving the education of our students. They each go above and beyond their call of duty to provide resources not only for our students but also for our employees. Thank you, JCS Board of Education, for your years of service and for all that you do for our school system.
March is Athletic Trainer Month
March is Athletic Trainer Month, and we would be remiss if we did not recognize our one and only Caroline Hicks. Ms. Hicks has been an athletic trainer for six years after graduating from the University of North Georgia with a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. She recently graduated with her Masters of Arts in Workforce Education from the University of Georgia. When asked what led her to choose this profession, she said, "I loved healthcare sciences and wanted to be in the medical field in some capacity, but also wanted to be in a sports setting as well. Athletic training allowed me to do both". One fun fact about her is that she tries to take a selfie with our teams that win region, state, etc. She is pictured above front and center with the wrestling team. Ms. Hicks loves helping our athletes through injuries and watching them get back to their sport doing what they love. Athletic Training is an allied health profession. Athletic Trainers are a part of a healthcare team that helps promote wellness and prevention, emergency care, examinations and evaluations of injuries, therapeutic interventions, and rehabilitation of injuries. Thank you, Ms. Hicks, for everything you do for our student-athletes.
Willy Wonka, Jr. Presented by JMS Drama Dragons
The JMS Drama Dragons just finished an incredible run of the musical Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, Jr. The cast performed three shows on February 25th and 26th at the JHS Performing Arts Center and received rave reviews by audience members. The cast for this show began rehearsing in October with directors Lynn Mulvey, Christy Walker, and Elizabeth Kelley. “We have been so impressed by the level of talent that these students have exhibited throughout this process. Being a part of any drama production requires a high level of commitment, hours of rehearsal, and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. It was amazing to see the students embrace their characters so well and perform at such a high level of excellence. These students had a great time performing together, and it was so neat to see the bond they shared once the production ended. We are so proud of our JMS Drama Dragons!”

Directors: Elizabeth Kelley, Lynn Mulvey, Christy Walker

Choreographers: Ava Nilsen, Abbi Nilsen

JES "I Am Enough" Read Aloud
In February, students at Jefferson Elementary School participated in a read-aloud conducted by the administrative team. The book, entitled I Am Enough, provides a consistent message of the importance of self-worth and embracing differences. Author Grace Byers emphasizes that regardless of one's looks, abilities, or beliefs, every child is unique, able, and worthy of respect. Her message encourages children to recognize diversity and show respect and kindness to others. In Ms. Wheeler's art class, this message came to life as each student was invited to celebrate their uniqueness by creating a replication of who they are. These replications are displayed throughout the JES hallways with the message, "We Celebrate You." Click here if you would like to view the author reading the book.
