MESSAGE FROM RICKY

Dear Friends,

We had a wonderful day of worship this past Sunday as we began our new sermon series, "Back to the Basics." We looked at the topic of prayer, a fundamental practice for us as Christians. I challenged us all to make prayer a priority in this new year. Take some time each day to spend in prayer with God. Whether its a few moments or a few hours, any time spent with God is well worth it!

This coming Sunday, we will continue by looking at the practice of reading Holy Scripture. We believe the Bible is God's word to us and for the world. As a matter of fact, our new Bishop Sharma Lewis, has challenged every United Methodist in Mississippi to commit to reading the whole Bible together this year. We began on January 1 reading thorough the Book of Genesis. It's not too late to join us! See below for the daily reading schedule for the rest of January.

Don't worry if not every passage makes sense right now. It's not about quantity of information, but about quality of time spent with God, in His Word.

So, around this time some of your other New Year's resolutions may be flagging, so this is the perfect time to make room for more prayer and more study of the Scriptures. These Basics will help us to have a wonderful year together!

Grace and Peace,

Ricky

FELLOWSHIP BINGO NIGHT

On January 18th, our Wednesday night meals and fellowship time starts back at 5:15 pm! We are kicking off the semester with a church-wide bingo night in the gym at 6 pm following the meal. We will not have bible studies that night, though choir and bells will meet as scheduled. We are excited for a night of fellowship to kick off a fun semester here at First UMC!

And don't worry, the prizes are AWESOME!

THANKS SO MUCH!

I would first like to thank everyone who volunteered their time by providing a meal on Sunday Nights. As we advance to the next semester, we are in need volunteers to provide and serve the snack supper for United Night. This is such a great way to serve!
