FGSR Highlights
Digital Futures
Digital Futures is an in-person career fair and poster competition for students interested in working in the tech sector or with digital technology. The poster competition is open to graduate students doing research in this area and the first 25 accepted posters will receive a participation award of $100, in addition to $3500 available in other prizes. Register now for this event.
 
This event is on March 24, 2022, in the main gym.
3MT Competition
There is still time to participate in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT)
 
We are returning to in-person sessions and our first big event will be the 3MT Finals on March 22 in RIC 119. For more information go here
 
In order to make it to the finals, you need to compete in one of the heats on March 8 at 7:00 PM or March 9 at 1:30 PM with the top 8 moving on to the finals on March 22. The winner will receive a $1500 prize and move on to the Western Regional Finals. Runner-up and the People’s Choice winners will receive prizes as well. Register for one of the heats to participate.
Graduate Supervision Award
The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to announce the inaugural University of Regina’s Award for Outstanding Graduate Supervision. This award recognizes a faculty member with a record of excellent mentorship and supervision of graduate students at the University of Regina. We look forward to your nominations!
Coffee with the Dean
In our first in-person Coffee with the Dean, come grab coffee and Timbits at FGSR. There will be a chance to meet and chat with the FGSR team, Dean and Associate Deans, and other graduate students. The event focuses on building graduate student community with no planned formal agenda. Please register for this in-person event on March 17 in CK 226.
Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey
On March 8 you will receive an invitation to participate in the 2022 Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey. This national survey is done every three years and is a key benchmark for measuring your satisfaction in our institution. Your answers help shape the direction of graduate studies at the U of R so we hope you will take the 20 minutes to complete the survey.

War is a brutal reality of our world and we hope for peace. If you are currently struggling we would like to remind you of the mental health support available, and that there are options for coursework deferrals or a leave of absence if necessary. Please reach out to grad.studies@uregina.ca and we can discuss the options that are available to you. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine. 


March 8 is a day to celebrate women and acknowledge the continued discrimination that women face across the world.
 
Violet Clara McNaughton was the leader of the women’s suffrage movement in Saskatchewan who brought groups together and won the right to in 1916. Two years before BC and Ontario and 24 years before Quebec. Indigenous women and men would continue to be excluded until the 1960s.

Grad Spotlight:
Kickstart Program
Five students (Michael Fabrik, Jared Suchan, Lawrence Adetu, Mohammed Didarul, and Kwaku Ayisi) were selected for the Kickstart Program by Foresight where they will receive training and mentorship on how to turn their business ideas into reality. Their topics include blue hydrogen, environmental simulation, replacing road salt, recycling clothing and green infrastructure funding.

Project Objectives
The objective of the proposed work with MITACS is to:
1)   Expand our database of video recipes and meal photography to integrate into our social media and upcoming mobile application.
 
2)   Create and implement marketing plans for websites and social media platforms. These marketing activities will Improve customer experience, create better brand image, and increase revenue. The three marketing pathways for this would include education of target customers, defined experience path to purchase decision and an improved post product purchase experience.
