Beware of Scam Calls
Phone numbers can easily be spoofed to show up as legitimate companies or organizations through caller ID. Case in point, this week the Lakeway Police Department received a fraud report indicating that a suspect had reached out to a potential victim by spoofing a Lakeway Police Department phone number. The suspect asked the potential victim that they were representing the department and were attempting to collect money on behalf of Amazon. No one with the Lakeway Police Department would reach out to collect money on behalf of another company. Please use caution if anyone reaches out asking for money, even if your caller ID indicates it's from the company/organization they are allegedly representing. Instead, hang up and call the company or organization back directly (using information from a legitimate source) to inquire about the call you received. Please report suspicious activity directly to the Lakeway Police Department at (512) 261-2800 or CLICK HERE to connect to an online report form. CLICK HERE for some more helpful tips from the FCC.
