Proposed New Sewer Rates

With hesitation the City of Belvidere proposed a sewer rate increase at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on February 13th. With the fiscal year 2024 sewer budget projecting a $443,619.00 deficit the City is proposing a sewer rate increase of $0.30/HCF. The new rate of $2.76/HCF represents a 12% increase and the average monthly bill would increase $2.41 or $0.08 per day. Currently, Belvidere’s water and sewer rates are the lowest in the region. The average water and sewer bill for 6,000 gallons of water in our region is $70.08. Belvidere’s bill is $38.72. Our low rates are a result of strategic investments in technology and infrastructure to maximize the efficiency and reliability of our water and sanitary sewer systems. Our last rate increase was in 2011 and since then the consumer price index (CPI) has gone up 32% and the construction cost index (CCI) has gone up 44%. City Council has forwarded the sewer rate increase to City Council for final approval. If approved the rate increase would go into effect April 1, 2023.
