IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Beloved congregation, I am writing with a heavy heart to tell you that I will be resigning from UUCUC on January 3rd, at the end of my time of medical leave. Although there have been some improvements with my rheumatoid arthritis and its complications since my medical leave began in September, my health has not yet stabilized, and I continue to experience levels of fatigue that make ministry an impossibility, for now. I remain determined and hopeful that I am on a path toward remission, but it’s clear that healing needs to be my full-time job for a while. Continue reading...
NEED SUPPORT IN PROCESSING REV. FLORENCE'S NEWS?

We are all absorbing the hard news that Rev. Florence will not be able to return to her ministry with us as planned. At times like this, we need to be with our community more than ever, and Revs KB and Sally are holding space for UUCUC members and friends on Sunday, December 12th to come together, share honestly, and support each other. Please see linking information below. We hope to see you on Zoom or in person this Sunday.

LEAVE A MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FOR REV. FLORENCE

We have created a Kudoboard space for the congregation to leave messages of support and love for Rev. Florence. The Kudoboard will be delivered to Rev. Florence on Saturday, December 18th. If you have a moment, please wish her well!

OUR CARING CONGREGATION
Millie Davis had a heart attack a couple weeks ago, but has been requiring rest so didn't tell the rest of us. She sent a note to the choir listserv this Sunday morning, and gave permission to post to the larger UUCUC family. Keep her in your thoughts and send healing energy as she navigates the recovery road!
As you plan your holiday winter giving, please consider donating to the Little Free Pantries run by Julie Laut (in Urbana) and AJ Herzog (in Champaign), which they have maintained since March 2020. Their Amazon wish list has been updated to include unique winter items. All items off the wishlist will be delivered to Julie's house and shared between the two pantries. You are also welcome to drop off items in person at both locations. Questions? Contact Julie (jlaut@hushmail.com), or AJ (zogs92@gmail.com).
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, December 5, 2021.

From Jerry Carden: Choir begins again this week at the church! Yay!

From Amanda Feder: Thankful for a visit with good friends from my former cohort last night. Many laughs and stories to share. My heart is full.

From The Herzog Family: A joy: our non-binary, masculine-leaning kiddo swam in their first college swim meet this weekend and looked to be the only afab person swimming in the men’s category. What courage it took to walk up to the block and dive in among men from several other colleges. We’re proud of you, Ren

From Ellen Jacobsen: Womens rights of self determination and a joy for the beautiful days and goodness in my family.

From Jocelyn Karsk: Great Joy in being able to return to Nebraska for a visit over Thanksgiving and celebrate my grandmother's 98th birthday.

From Julie Laut: It has been one year since we lost my mother-in-law to COVID. That anniversary, plus the news about the Omicron variant, has made this another challenging week.

From Mick McEnroe: On Friday, we unexpectedly made the decision to help our beloved cat Cara move on to whatever comes next. We are shocked and feel a lot of sorrow about this loss we didn't see coming. She was so loved and cherished. She was such a joy.

From Karla Peterson: Huge appreciation for two weeks of sharing with family over Thanksgiving and the week following.

From The Pitcel Family: Sorrow for the Oxford, MI, school shooting. If you are a firearm owner, especially with children at home, please practice responsible firearm safety.

From Anne & Dave Sharpe: We celebrated our 60th anniversary on Thursday, but with our family on Thanksgiving. We were wed on December 2, 1961, with Anne's father, an Episcopal priest, co-officiating. We were engaged on a Friday the 13th, and celebrate them as well. Much to celebrate!
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.organy time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

During the month of December 2021, we will support our Partner Churches with our social action offering. The mission and objectives of the Partner Church Committee are to develop long-term, mutually supportive relationships with our fellow UUs in Transylvania, Romania, and in the Khasi Hills in North East India.

RECENT SHARED OFFERINGS

During the month of October 2021, DREAAM House was selected to be the shared offering. The UUCUC congregation contributed a total of $1,577.50 that month!

DREAAM embraces and engages with DREAAMers as early as the age of 3 with the commitment to remain in their lives until they are 24. They work with children and young adults who need DREAAM the most. Some of them face tough odds, needing to overcome challenges such as school suspension, anger issues, parental incarceration, and low academic skills. However, where others see problems, DREAAM sees potential. They reach out to families, community organizations, churches, schools, and service providers to produce caring, outcome-driven services for children and young adults..
