Khaneh Iran's Distinguished Speakers' Lecture!


On October 22,  South Bay Persian Heritage Foundation  hosted a lecture by IAWF's Founder and President  Mariam Khosravani. She  g ave a speech on the topic of Iranian American Women's Roles and their Contributions to the Society. On behalf of board of Directors of South Bay Persian Heritage Foundation, Ms. Mehri Bavafa presented an award to Mariam Khosravani for her contribution to the Iranian American community. 


COMMUNITY, PEACE, AND TRANSFORMATION:
Perspectives  of Iranian American Women


Georgetown University's Persian Language and Culture Program and IAW Foundation will be presenting the Community, Peace, & Transformation panel.

Panelists include Leila Milani, a senior International Policy Advocate for Futures Without Violence, Parisa Norouz, the Executive Director of Empower DC, Anusce Sanai, the Supervising Immigration and Family Law Attorney at the Tahirih Justice Center, and Yosmin Badie, the Division Manger of the Petey Greene Program DC Region.

The panel will take place on November 12, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the McShain Room in McCarthy Hall, Georgetown University.

Azadeh Khalili is an innovative social change agent and policy maker with extensive experience in government, philanthropy and the non-profit sector. She has worked for over 20 years to advance progressive policies and to create better conditions for marginalized communities, including in the field of human rights, sexual and reproductive rights, and the rights of immigrants and low-wage workers.  Ms. Khalili is dedicated to public service and creating sustainable large-scale change through the power  of inclusion & collaboration. 
From 2016-2017,  Azadeh served as the Founding Executive Director of the New York City Commission on Gender Equity. In this position, she worked to reduce gender-based inequality and to build a safer, more inclusive and economically mobile city for millions of women and girls.

    Shirin Hedayat
Northern California

Shirin Hedayat graduated 
from San Francisco State in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in Computer Information 
Systems and continued with 
a Master's Degree from 
Golden Gate University in Finance/Investments in 1992. Sharon Hedayat has worked as a financial advisor and registered principal for many years with a focus on managing retirement assets of small to medium size companies . In 2014, Shirin Hedayat received a Vocational Diploma in Master in Intuition Medicine from Academy of Intuition Medicine in Sausalito. Shirin Hedayat currently involves with different healing modalities. Shirin lives a life of passion regardless of what she does whether managing investments, helping people, 
or growing olives and making her own olive oil. Among her many other interests and hobbies, Shirin loves spending time in nature and hiking.

Southern California

Hon. Nooshin Meshkaty is Computer Scientist and Electronics Specialist who has built her nearly 30 year career in Aerospace Industry. She is currently a Senior Engineer and Technical Group Leader for Manufacturing and Logistics of Flight Electronics at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). During her tenure at JPL, she has worked on many Flight Instruments that have launched and successfully transferred science to the us. Examples include JUNO (Jupiter Polar Orbiter), Mars Curiosity (Mars Space Laboratory) and many more projected such as Mars 2020. Nooshin has also been an active member of her community. She was an elected member of the Beverly Hills School Board of Education 2005-2009, serving both as Board Member and Board President. She has been active member of many social and civil councils and committees.

Farima Sadigh Mostowfi is Associate Teaching Professor and the director and founder of the Persian Language and Culture Program at Georgetown University. In this role, she has developed curricula for eight different courses as well as new Persian multimedia learning tools, and teaches several Persian and French courses each year. Previously, Farima taught Persian, created Persian programs, and evaluated Persian courses at the American University, George Washington University, and various other language-learning organizations. She has also co-authored two Persian and French learning textbooks. She has over 30 years' experience teaching second language acquisition in Persian and French. Farima is also fluent in French and Azeri. Outside of the classroom, she is a committee member for the CLS, FLAS and Fulbright scholarship programs for students of Persian and French. She also serves as an active member and consultant for Persian pedagogy in organizations such as AATP, STARTALK, ISIS, ACTFL, MESA and ACE/PONSI. In her free time, Farima is the chairwoman of the Friends of the Children's Cultural Development Center, an organization which advocates for the creation of libraries in rural areas of Iran.  For more information about Farima Sadigh Mostowfi click  here.  

 
Mentee Spotlight

Jasmine Hormati has a passion for food, health, sustainability and helping others. She received her Bachelor of Science from University of California, Berkeley in Conservation and Resource Studies - Nutrition Education and Community Health. Jasmine previously worked at the Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center as the Garden and Nutrition Coordinator where she ran her own garden-based nutrition education program for preschoolers, K-5th graders and seniors. In Fall 2017, Jasmine began her Masters of Science in Nutrition at Teachers College - Columbia University.

IAWF Scholarship Opportunities


The IAWF scholarships are to help students achieve their goals by providing them financial assistance based on their needs. Scholarships are available to current IAWF Mentorship  to Internship  Program participants. However, only a limited number of individuals will be selected to receive the scholarship. Scholarships are meant to assist the students with tuition, textbooks, and other course materials. Qualifying criteria include academic achievement, community service, and financial need.
