Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training Schedule Released

Trainings are held both in-person and via Zoom.

The Michigan On-Farm Produce Safety Team has released its 2023-2024 Produce Safety Training Schedule. These trainings, held both in-person and via Zoom, help explain the “shoulds and musts” of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule. Upon completion of the training, participants will have a better understanding of the actual requirements of the law and practical ways to meet those requirements on the farm. 


The cost to attend a training is $100 and pre-registration is required at least three weeks prior to the training date.

Meet Joe Smith – MDARD's New Produce Safety Specialist


Joe Smith is the Produce Safety Specialist with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. His career in food safety began with the MDARD Food and Dairy Division in April 2018 after earning a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Lake Superior State University in 2017. Since 2018 Joe has held inspector roles with the food, dairy, and produce programs within MDARD. Joe has worked with the Produce Safety Unit conducting food safety inspections on Michigan fruit and vegetable farms since 2019. Continue Reading
