MARCH 2022

Thank you for subscribing and spending your time to read about important City updates. For this edition, it’s essential to spotlight Downtown Redevelopment and the upcoming Municipal Election.

Downtown Redevelopment - There are three different efforts that are currently taking place. First, there is the proposed regulatory Comprehensive Plan amendment to incentivize the construction of vertically integrated, mixed-use buildings that promote residential dwelling units instead of commercial space along Tampa Road just in the downtown area. The amendment does not increase the height or size of the development currently allowed. The overall height of the district is, and will remain, at 6 stories. For more information, including a density incentive Fact Sheet, please visit DowntownOldsmar.com.

The amendment to the City’s Comprehensive Plan has been approved by the City of Oldsmar’s Planning Board, the City Council (first reading), the Forward Pinellas Planners Advisory Committee, the Forward Pinellas Board, and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners. The next step in the process is for the City Council to hold a second public hearing (tentatively April 5) to consider the adoption of the amendment.

The second relates to the development of the property located next to City Hall. The City Council unanimously authorized the negotiations with Woodfield Development, LLC. The next step in the process is to present the Essential Terms of a Development Agreement to the City Council.

Third, at last night’s City Council Meeting, I presented the essential terms of a proposed development agreement between the City and Devon S Rushnell, LLC to develop the site adjacent to the Oldsmar Public Library. Last night, the City Council directed me to host three public open houses to present the conceptual plan and essential terms. The open houses will be on Wednesday, March 23 from 6-8 pm at TECO Hall, Thursday, March 24 from 1-3 pm at the Gull Aire Village clubhouse, and Saturday, March 26 from 9-11 am at the Cypress Forest Recreation Center.

Election (Elección) - The City of Oldsmar has an election on March 15, 2022. Voters have the opportunity to vote for Mayor, Council Seat 2, and 11 Charter Questions. The deadline to register to vote in this election is February 14, 2022. The deadline to request a mail ballot is March 5, 2022. To register to vote or request a mail ballot, visit VotePinellas.com or contact the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections at (727) 464-8683. For information regarding the candidates or charter questions, visit MyOldsmar.com or contact the Oldsmar City Clerk at (813) 749-1115.
