Happy Sunday, Pride!

I hope each of you had a wonderful weekend. Throughout February, we participated in Random Acts of Kindness throughout Riverwalk Academy. It's a week that's celebrated during February, but we tried to celebrate it throughout the month.

As February closes out, I want to remind everyone of the importance of being kind to others, especially in these challenging times. One way to make a positive impact on our world is by participating in Random Acts of Kindness.

Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) are simple acts that are done unexpectedly to brighten up someone's day. It could be anything from helping someone carry their groceries to holding the door for someone to writing a thank-you note to someone who has made a difference in your life. Small actions can make a huge impact on people, and that’s why we want to encourage you to participate in Random Acts of Kindness.

Although RAK Week is over, and it’s never too late to start thinking about how we can make our world a better place. You can start by brainstorming some ideas with your family or friends. Think about the people in your community who might need a helping hand or a little encouragement.

Here are some simple acts of kindness that you can do:

  1. Smile and say hello to someone you don’t know.
  2. Offer to help your neighbor with a chore or task.
  3. Write a thank-you note to someone who has made a difference in your life.
  4. Donate your old clothes or toys to a local charity.
  5. Bake cookies and give them to your friends or neighbors.
  6. Leave a positive note in a public place to inspire someone.

These are just a few examples, but the possibilities are endless. Remember, the most important thing is to make someone feel special and appreciated.

Participating in Random Acts of Kindness not only helps others, but it also makes us feel good about ourselves. We all have the power to make a positive impact on the world, and Random Acts of Kindness is a great way to start.

So, let's work together to make our school and community a kinder, happier place. Let’s show others that we care and that we are willing to go the extra mile to make a difference.

In Strength and Blessings,

~Dr. Compton

A Note from Ms. Carr & Ms. Teague

Greetings,

We’ve loved hearing about different acts of kindness that children are showing at home and throughout the community! As we round out our final days of Random Acts of Kindness Month, we’d like to share a fun kindness challenge to make kindness the norm at home and in your neighborhood. Download this activity book for children who are 12 years old and younger. Download this activity book for children who are 13 years of age and older.  If your family enjoys coloring time together, please print and color these acts of kindness coloring pages. We’d love to have students bring some of these to school!

By participating in activities throughout Random Acts of Kindness month, your family is helping create a world where everyone can succeed by being nice, where we all look out for one another, where we all pay it forward, and where kindness is the norm.

Make kindness your superpower!

((HUGS)),

Mrs. Carr and Ms. Teague

Read Across America Week

Each year at the beginning of March we celebrate Read Across America Week. This week is a time to motivate students to read, especially books that promote diversity and inclusion. Fall in love with reading this week by participating in our dress up days. We’d also love for you to help us duct tape our principal by telling us all about your favorite book.

Calling All Boys 3rd - 5th Grade

Let Me Run is a nonprofit wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. With a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running, the program encourages boys to develop their psychological, emotional and social health, in addition to their physical health. Twice a week for seven weeks, two trained volunteer coaches lead an elementary or middle school team through practice. Designed to amplify confidence, self-expression, and respect for others, each practice includes a lesson from the Let Me Run curriculum that incorporates running, games and activities. Each fall and spring season culminates in a 5k race festival that celebrates the boys’ personal growth.

Registration at Riverwalk Academy is now open for grades 3 - 5! Spring season starts on March 28th, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour and fifteen minutes, and ends with a 5k race on May 20th. Visit LetMeRun.org to learn more and register. Space is limited. Questions? Email: mchannell@riverwalkacademy.com

Hello PRIDE!!

We have had a great week. We are rapidly closing in on the final four weeks of this quarter. Please make sure your student is checking in PowerSchool and keeping up so they can finish the nine weeks strong. We have several events coming up, on March 10 we will have the NAMI presentation for grades 6-9 called Ending the Silence. This presentation discusses the lived experiences of people who have dealt with mental illness. Please see the graphic above for more detailed information. There will be a permission letter coming home on Tuesday, to attend your student must have the letter signed.

We also have Caregiver 101 on February 27 at 8:30 am in the MPR. SRO Prescott will be presenting information regarding social media and cyberbullying. This will also be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person. Riverwalk has a heart for Miracle Park starts next week- please see the graphic above and help us to support this cause.

If your student is in Beta Club we will be meeting on Monday at 3:15 in the MPR, we are going to be working on planning events for the remainder of the year. As we continue with Random Acts of Kindness this month, please encourage your student to be kind to all they meet. Part of our work here at RWA centers around students have respect and integrity and being kind is key to be respectful and having integrity. A Note from Ms. Menges

Hi Everyone!

This past week, I have been chipping away at my IGP meetings with 8th grade students and their parents. I always enjoy getting to meet with each student individually and learning more about their post high school plans. Parents, if this is not something you have talked about much in your home, please consider starting these conversations. As your students grow, share with them areas in their lives where you see strengths and passion. Sometimes it can be hard to look at ourselves and know where our skills lie. Encourage them in discovering careers that may be a good fit for them one day!

Here's what we have going on this week...

Things to note:

-8th and 9th grade families, PLEASE send me an email if you have yet to sign up for an IGP time. I am going to send reminder emails, but it is required that each of you and your students meet with me.

Quote of the Week:

“Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens to you.”
