TOLI to Hold 26 Holocaust Education Programs in 2022 |

Teacher Seminars in 15 regions in US, 11 European Countries
Hundreds of teachers will be taking part in TOLI seminars this year in the US and Europe, acquiring the professional skills to teach the Holocaust and, through that lens, address the issues of human rights, social justice, and genocide. TOLI programs have transformed educators' approach to teaching, leaving a lasting impact, in and out of schools. “We believe that education is the key to confronting rising hate and intolerance,” said Mark Berez, President of TOLI. “And our seminars provide critical support for teachers when they return to their classrooms.”

US: Indiana and Louisiana Join Summer Seminars |
|
Two new states, Indiana and Louisiana, have joined the TOLI network of satellite seminars in 2022: At the Crossroads: Navigating the Holocaust in Indiana’s Classrooms, and Looking Toward the Future: Bringing Lessons of the Holocaust to the Gulf South. Other and continuing regional programs will take place in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The New York flagship program will be returning in-person this summer, following two years of virtual meetings as a result of the pandemic. In June, there will be a special six-day seminar for teachers accepted into the 2020 program, followed by an 11-day seminar for new participants in July. These are immersive, in-depth programs that offer opportunities for teachers to think creatively and collaboratively about their practice. Some of the flagship teachers train further to become regional or satellite coordinators.

TOLI Expands European Network
Latvia and Spain Added to 2022 Programs

Following two years of virtual and hybrid seminars, TOLI Europe plans to conduct its programs in-person in 2022. Seminars were scheduled in 11 countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, and Ukraine. Spain and Latvia are new to the TOLI network. Because of the pandemic, the seminars in Greece and Spain, slated for earlier this year, will be rescheduled.

Olga's Memoirs of Auschwitz for Teachers in Greece |

On February 28, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Jewish Museum of Greece, a Greek translation of Olga Lengyel's book, Five Chimneys: A Woman Survivors True Story of Auschwitz," will be launched and distributed to schools throughout the country. The book launch takes place as an official event under Greece's Presidency of the International Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

Join Virtual Event March 1: ADL Leader and TOLI Educators on Stopping Hate |

Our next virtual event will be held, Tuesday, March 1 at 6:00 PM ET, with Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of The Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Please join us for a discussion about his new book, It Could Happen Here: Why America is Tipping from Hate to the Unthinkable - And How We Can Stop It. Jennifer Lemberg, Associate Director of US Programs at TOLI, and Alexander "Sandy" Pope, Associate Professor of Education at Salisbury University and co-leader of TOLI’s Maryland Satellite Seminar, will lead a conversation on the importance of educators in combatting hate and antisemitism. The program will be moderated by TOLI board member Arthur Berger.

In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, TOLI presented the virtual program, Images of Endurance: The Last Holocaust Survivors. This program featured powerful and inspiring images of survivors taken by leading professional photographers in thirty countries. Produced by The Lonka Project, the exhibit has been shown in several countries and is currently on display at the Ghetto Fighters House Museum in Israel.

Third Annual International Student Art Exhibit |
|
TOLI is pleased to announce the continuation of the Annual International Student Art Exhibit for a third year. In 2021, TOLI received over 200 submissions from across the US and throughout Europe. Students submitted artwork in a variety of media, which included painting, drawing, and three-dimensional sculptures. The Annual International Student Art Exhibit is open to students of all TOLI graduates from the domestic or international seminars. This project is in memory of Kathy Carlisle, a beloved TOLI teacher from Sacramento, California.
