First and foremost, many thanks to Visit Elizabeth City for over two years of planning, prepping, and planning as plans changed mid-pandemic. While we played a small role, the vast majority of the effort for the event and resulting praise should go to the Visit Elizabeth City staff for all of their hard work. In the end, the event was a great success, and I’m glad to have been able to participate as both a planner and a runner (yes, I did manage to finish both the 5K and the marathon events.)
For our part Base Elizabeth City coordinated Coast Guard unit and volunteer support for the Inaugural Coast Guard Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K events. A diverse collection of CG units were onsite to support the public affairs and recruiting event including the Coast Guard Band who played the National Anthem for both days’ races and AIRSTA Elizabeth City who provided a flyover to start the Coast Guard Marathon/Half Marathon and teamed with Station Elizabeth City for a mid-day SAR Demonstration.
Early on Visit Elizabeth City and Base leadership agreed to make the Base part of the race course, so Coast Guard Police vetted all Marathon and Half-Marathon registrants to ensure they would have access to the Base where runners were cheered on by energetic Coast Guard members and their families.
At the start/finish line, Coast Guard Communications Command, the Coast Guard Atlantic Strike Force, Maritime Security Response Team-East, Coast Guard Recruiting Command, Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City, Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Wanchese and the Coast Guard Auxiliary, all provided impressive static displays and the Coast Guard micro-exchange was also onsite selling CG branded merchandise. All of our visiting commands spoke about how welcoming and hospitable E-City was and greatly appreciated their stay – and all of the runners I spoke to said the same about the course support and overall hospitality.
In case you missed it, the Assistant Secretary of the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs was the official starter for the 5K event and ran in the Marathon on Saturday and Representative Murphy (R-NC) and his staff ran in the 5K event on Friday with Rep Murphy returning as the official starter for the Marathon/Half-Marathon event on Saturday.
Thanks again for all of your support – I hope you’ll join us again for next year’s race!!

They were impressed at the longevity of our employees. Monica Adkins our Parts Manager has been with us since August of 2000 and Tiffany Houlroyd our Service Advisor started in January of 2014. We have a strong group of women that really know about cars and trucks. Bringing Michael Ray on as our Service Manager has been such a great asset for Performance Chevrolet also. Collagen is the most abundant, naturally occurring protein found in the human body and is the building block for your cells, tissues, and organs, making it essential for healthy bones, joints, skin, hair, and nails.
As we age, our natural collagen production begins to slow down (it begins in your 20s), which can lead to common signs of aging such as stiff joints, sagging skin, brittle nails, lackluster hair and wrinkles.
Shaklee's Collagen-9 product will be available on August 2nd.
Some details about the product:
- 10g Collagen per serving.
- Uniquely designed to include all 9 essential amino acids needed to support protein synthesis, including collagen.
- 100% DV of Biotin to support healthy hair, skin, and nails.*
- 100% DV of Vitamin C to protect our bodies against damage caused by free radicals and helps in collagen synthesis.*
- 100% Hydrolyzed Collagen for quicker digestion and absorption.*
What can you say about Collagen-9:
- Unflavored and easy to mix in your favorite drink.
- Non-GMO, grass-fed, pastured raised and gluten-free.
- No artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives added.
