Planning & Development

In Brief

Harrison viaduct in Grant Park closed The pedestrian bridge over the Metra tracks east of Michigan has been closed due to structural deterioration, forcing pedestrians north to Ida B. Wells Dr. or south to Balbo. No reconstruction plan has been announced.

West of the neighborhood, Harrison continues to be a headache for cyclists, as it’s closed from the Chicago River to Canal St., next to the Old Post Office, for reconstruction over the railroad tracks. Pedestrians can get through the site by using the sidewalk arcade at the “new” post office.

New construction coming to the South Loop: 1829 S State, the former plumbing supply building, for conversion to a religious assembly for Awaken Church Chicago.

At 106 E Cullerton St, a 3-story early childhood daycare facility is being built.

Mercy Housing has a zoning application up to build a new 5-story, 50-unit building with 21 parking spaces at 1800 S Michigan.

Tenants at 1723 S Michigan, including the kids’ gym, have been told to vacate. No plans for that site have been disclosed.
