Orange County’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program remains open for individuals who are behind on rent or at risk of being evicted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, more than $15.3 million have been approved to keep 2,635 families in their homes. Recently, the City of Orlando announced it has depleted its current federal funds dedicated to its Emergency Rental Assistance Program. Orange County is stepping in to bridge the gap and will temporarily offer assistance to Orlando residents, effective now until further notice. Eligible residents include those living in unincorporated Orange County, Apopka, Bay Lake, Belle Isle, Eatonville, Edgewood, Lake Buena Vista, Maitland, Oakland, Ocoee, Orlando, Windermere, Winter Garden and Winter Park. Residents can visit ocfl.net/RentalAssistance to review program details and to check if their address is eligible.

CareerSource Central Florida is helping career seekers and displaced workers apply for the Reemployment Assistance program through the Department of Economic Opportunity.

The Orange County Library System offers Right Service at the Right Time, a free online tool and public resource that is particularly useful to those who have had their income affected by COVID-19. The service provides a platform to easily find information on government-assistance and community-support programs.

Osceola County is currently accepting applications for emergency utility assistance for households impacted by COVID19. Funding is available for electric, gas, and water utilities only. If you reside in Osceola County and your household is impacted, please click here to complete the application.

For Lake County residents, United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties is able to assist with CARES/ERA/SHIP Federal funds for rent and utilities. For more information on eligibility and documents needed, or to make an appointment, please visit their Family Stability Services page.

Aspiring Olympian Brittany Charboneau set a marathon record on Sunday, and she did it dressed as her favorite Disney characters. Charboneau swept all four of the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend races, becoming the first person to top the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon finishers in the event’s 29-year history. That’s a combined 48.6 miles of running on consecutive days known as the Dopey Challenge.

The seventh annual Cure Bowl was recognized by CBS Sports as the No. 1 college bowl game of 2021. This will be the second-straight year CBS Sports rated the Cure Bowl as the No.1 bowl game.

The ECHL announced that Orlando Solar Bears forward Aaron Luchuk has been named to the roster for the ECHL All-Stars for the 2022 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic, to be hosted in Jacksonville on Monday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The game will air exclusively on NHL Network and be streamed via FloHockey.

Orlando City head coach Oscar Pareja admits the biggest challenge in having three picks in Tuesday’s MLS SuperDraft is choosing wisely. In a setting that took place virtually, Orlando selected forward Jack Lynn with the No. 18 overall pick out of Notre Dame. The Lions also selected defender Nathan Dossantos of Marshall at No. 46 and UCF winger Nick Taylor at No. 74.

The Orlando Magic will induct former general manager John Gabriel and head coach Brian Hill into their Hall of Fame in March, the team announced Tuesday morning. Gabriel and Hill will become the 10th and 11th inductees into the Magic’s Hall of Fame, joining Darrell Armstrong, David Steele, Tracy McGrady, Jimmy Hewitt, Penny Hardaway, Rich DeVos, Shaquille O’Neal, Pat Williams and Nick Anderson.

Rachel Balkovec will become the first female manager in affiliated professional baseball after the New York Yankees tapped her to lead the Tampa Tarpons, their Low-A affiliate team, according to the Athletic. This isn’t the first glass ceiling the 34-year-old has shattered in baseball - the Omaha native has been a professional baseball coach for 10 years and has often been the first woman to hold different jobs within the sport.

Three Orlando city commissioners were sworn in Monday to new four-year terms. Jim Gray, Robert Stuart and Regina Hill were each re-elected last year, representing crucial pockets of the city from downtown Orlando and neighborhoods west and north, to the fast-growing Lake Nona planned developments and established neighborhoods on the east side.

Sugar Ray, Diana Ross and Barenaked Ladies will be the first three acts for concerts during the 2022 edition of Universal’s Mardi Gras celebrations, which begin at Universal Studios theme park on Feb. 5. Mennello Museum of American Art announced "Contemporary Expressions: Prints from Flying Horse Editions." Curated by the City of Orlando's Public Art Collection, the exhibit holds the largest and most complete assemblage of works published by Flying Horse Editions, which will be on view at Mennello Museum from Jan. 21 through May 30, 2022.
