Join Us on Wednesday, May 11th from 9:30am - 11:00am for the 2022 New Jersey Virtual State Advocacy Day!
NAMI NJ is excited to collaborate with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention NJ and the Mental Health Association in NJ to bring together passionate advocates to learn about 988, which will be launched July 16, 2022. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Congress designated 988 as the new three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The number will have trained staff to answer calls from individuals at risk for suicide as well as those experiencing other mental health and substance use related emergencies and be able to link people to services in their local communities. Learn more by attending Advocacy Day and help us make 988 a reality.

Our program will feature Senators Vin Gopal and Joseph Vitale (Primary Sponsors of S311) and potentially other legislators who will speak on their respective 988 bills and share why they need your support.

Interested advocates will also have the opportunity to schedule phone and video calls with state legislators following the event to:

  • Share with them why suicide prevention is important to YOU and to your community
  • Educate them about the work being done in your community to prevent suicide
  • Teach them what more must be done to prevent suicide
