Blood Oranges

Called this for its crimson colour, the blood orange, or raspberry orange, as some may say, is a unique member of the citrus family.

Coloured by anthocyanins, this phytonutrient and pigment is found in many flowers and fruit...just not in any other citrus fruit! It generally forms along the edges of the peel, then follows the segments of the fruit before colouring the flesh, which is why some oranges may have streaks in them vs being one uniformed colour.
