Then the Devil went away and the angels came and cared for Jesus.
Matthew 4: 11, NLT

LOOK FOR THE ANGELS

Before Jesus began his ministry, he was led into the wildereness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted by the Devil. After forty days and nights, he was hungry, tired, lonely, and more vulnerable than he had ever been. The devil, being fully aware of Jesus’ mental, emotional and physical state, tempted him where he knew it would hurt –with food, power, and possessions.

Like Jesus, the Devil knows to attack us when we are most vulnerable. When we are feeling lonely, weak, frustrated, downcast or ready to simply give up on life, he is like “a roaring lion, prowling about, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8).

But the good news is that we do not have to succumb when our great enemy strikes. We can fight off his attacks of temptation the same way Jesus did - using the sword of the Spirit- the word of God (Ephesians 6:17).

Are you feeling vulnerable because you are lonely, tired from the cares of life, dealing with doubts about your faith, or wearing the weight of a big decision? Like Jesus, take a firm stand when your great enemy aims temptations your way to cause you to succumb to your weak areas, and after you have won your battle and the Devil has retreated one more time, look for them to come; those special angels sent by your heavenly Father to comfort and care for you.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the angels of comfort you send me each time I win the battle against tempation. Amen.
