What: Walking meditation and hiking at Point Dume. Walk by the ocean, breathe with the ocean, learn to slow down, connect with the earth and each other. We may see whales from the top of the rock. The walking meditation style is rooted in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
Where: Meeting point: Sunset Restaurant, Malibu.
Walking along on the shore to Point Dume climbing spot (no climbing involved just a light hike) and back. Parking is free on the strip road next to Sunset Restaurant. Plan to arrive early to find a spot.
Duration: 1.5 hours
What to wear, what to bring: Layers and light hiking clothes - the breeze and weather are changing fast, so make sure you can take some off, or keep warm if haze comes in. It's recommended to walk bare feet by the shore, then put your shoes on for the climb at Point Dume. Keep that in mind to bring a light towel to wipe the sand off your feet. Personal water bottles recommended, and maybe a power bar.
About your guide: Carina Rosanna Tautu is a mediator and filmmaker and studied contemplative practices for the past 20 years. A former competitive figure skater, she learned to ground her mind from the Kagyu and Dzogchen Tibetan Buddhist Traditions. After seven years spent with the Tibetan practices, she traveled and expanded her studies of meditation, peacemaking, sacred storytelling and earth based practices learning from the elders of rare native lineages of Canada, Pacific Northwest, Mexico and Peru. While doing so, she reconnected deeper with her Romanian roots. Carina is also an Ashtanga Yoga practitioner trained by Noah Williams in Los Angeles.
What is this good for: Calming the mind, connecting with the earth and people, breaking through unconscious bias, expanding your ability to have compassion and empathy for yourself and others, dealing with adrenaline withdrawal, burnout and chronic fatigue.
