Bezaleel and the Tabernacle
As Israel camped in the wilderness after fleeing Egypt, God called Moses up to Mount Sinai for 40 days. It is there that God gave Moses the tables of ten commandments. After breaking them, God called him up for another 40 days. Along with new tablets, God also gave Moses many other detailed instructions. Among them was the building and crafting of a tabernacle for God’s presence to dwell and the Ark of the Covenant. Everything associated with the tabernacle was quite ornate, indeed, very magnificent. We see the instructions for building it in Exodus 35-39.
But who was to do the work or to oversee it? They had all been slaves in Egypt and were probably limited in skills needed for such intricate craftsmanship.
When God calls for a work or mission to be done, he will equip us for the task. He does not necessarily call the equipped ones, but He will equip the ones He calls.
This was the case with Bezaleel, the grandson of Hur. In Exodus 35:31-35 it speaks of this. Verses 31-34a says, (NKJV), “And He (the LORD) has filled him (Bezaleel) with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze (or brass), in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship. And He (God) has put in his heart the ability to teach (others)…” how to also do the works.
There is no indication that Bezaleel, or anyone else, previously possessed these skills. It was given to him specifically by Holy Spirit as God equipped him to not only do the intricate works, but also to raise up and teach others as well.
Perhaps you have had it in your heart to do something in particular, but you feel it is beyond your ability to perform it. If that desire is put there by God and it is a good thing, God by His Holy Spirit can equip you to be successful in it. God will equip you to accomplish the desire He has put within you. Just as He did it for Bezaleel, He will do it for you. But you must trust Him enough to launch the effort. He will not push you into it; He will lead you to it.
