Happy Valentine’s Day! 

Sharing the love as we call upon the talented and inspiring dance creators that comprise such a vital  part of our rich and vibrant Chicago dance landscape. Community Dancemakers we are sending you a special valentine ❤️ invitation to apply to be part of New Dances 2023 as we, together, celebrate this project’s landmark 40th anniversary, read on! 

This February 14th, we push pause for a moment to  take in this special day that comes once a year: a day to spread some love, give warm smiles and perhaps some warm hugs, throw in a dash of kindness, and maybe enjoy a few chocolates along the way. Please scroll down and enJOY some Valentine’s Day trivia (that may surprise you) as we, together, share the love.

Calling all Chicagoland Dancemakers: Be a part of New Dances 2023! 

SAVE the DATE: Call for proposals for choreography submissions will open on February 15. 

Proposals must be submitted by March 1 at 12:00 pm CT. 

Thodos Dance Chicago and DanceWorks Chicago continue as joined forces in presenting New Dances 2023. Don’t miss your chance to join us in celebrating our milestone 40th anniversary! New Dances 2023 will be performed June 22-24, 2023 at The Ruth Page Center For the Arts.

NOTE:

• New Dances 2023 is dedicated to creating a safe space for artists, and in that spirit, fully vaccinated individuals, as defined by the most up-to-date CDC guidelines, are invited to apply. Providing proof of vaccination will be part of the pre-registration process. 
• As New Dances is focused on supporting artists who have made a commitment to the Chicago community, please respect the residency requirement: Choreographer must reside in Chicago or a suburb of Chicago as of March 1, 2023.
• Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Did you know??...

• The first candy conversation hearts were made in 1866. 
• Lovebirds are real birds and typically travel in pairs. 
• Four states have a city name Valentine.
• It has been noted that teachers receive the most Valentines annually. Go Educators! 
• The color red has a range of meanings in different cultures: life, health, vigor, courage, and love. (Cheers to New Dances 2023 Ruby RED Jubilee!)
