A LETTER FROM LD2 PC LINDA JONES
When Will These Brutal Assaults End?
As I contemplate Black History Month, February 2023, I am thinking about how to celebrate my heritage.
I had to stop and think about the fact that we laid another young Black male to rest on February 1, 2023, because he was brutally beaten by policemen and later died. I thought about his family and what they must be experiencing in their grief.
When will these brutal assaults on young Black males end?
We witnessed with horror the murder of George Floyd which sparked worldwide protests. In this instance, and in others, you can see that it is an assault on Black men by policemen across this country.
We are still witnessing the brutal assaults that we saw Tyre Nichols take from the policemen who ignored his plea to please stop the beating.
How many more of these brutal assaults can we witness and our nation endure?
What will it take to purge police departments across the country of bad cops?
While that isn't the only problem in my humble opinion, there are so many more problems that must be addressed. We also need our elected officials to help their constituents by putting forth and passing bills that help to eliminate this policing problem.
The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act needs to be passed.
For me, my celebration of Black History Month 2023, will be to focus on what I can do as a PC, to work toward getting legislation passed to eliminate this assault on Black Men in America.
