ORIOLES' NEST

The Orioles’ Nest will start on 2/7 for second semester academic support. If your student needs a space to do homework, math and science tutoring or a space to work on credit recovery/online classes, the Orioles’ Nest is the place for them!

Only 25 students are allowed a night and students must report to the Nest promptly at 3:35pm. The Nest is located in the Learning Lab and goes until 5:30pm on most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

If your student does not sign up and we are at max capacity, they will be asked to try again for the next day. Please ensure your student signs up!

The Orioles’ Nest will not run during the following days in February: 2/21, 2/22

Please feel free to reach out to the Orioles’ Nest Coordinator, Kaelyn Dagon with any questions - dagon.kaelyn@slpschools.org

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

A Few Notes from our Attendance Team:

  • We have received many calls and google forms for students where they believe they were marked absent incorrectly by their teacher. Students should talk with their teacher directly as any attendance corrections must be made by the teacher.
  • If you leave a voicemail on the attendance line, please allow us until 1pm each day to complete attendance voicemails and forms. If after 1pm you or your student notice the attendance is not marked per your message, then please reach out at that time. Thank you.
  • Please note: parents and caregivers are allowed to excuse their student up to 10 full days per school year. At that time, a doctor’s note is required to excuse any absence. After 10 days, the absences will be marked as “doctor authorization required.” This will stay in the student’s attendance record until a doctor’s note is received, and will count as an unexcused absence for county truancy reporting purposes. Anytime students see a doctor, dentist, or other health professional, you can ask for a school excuse letter to submit to the attendance office. The corresponding absence is then marked as “doctor authorization received” and does not count toward the 10 days of parent excusals.
  • All PSEO & Study Hall release forms need to be completed and turned into Student Services. Once they have received the form, the counselors will update the student’s schedule and submit the information for the student to receive a release pass on the back of their student ID. Please allow this process to take 1-2 school days to be fully completed.

PEAC UPDATE

Hello Parents and Guardians,

There are some open spots coming up to provide yummy treats for the staff.  If you can bring snacks - muffins, bagels, yogurt, string cheese, fruit, granola bars, etc. - please sign up!

Treats - homemade or store bought - should be delivered to the front office at Door 1 between 7:15- 8:15 a.m.  If items are non-perishable/shelf stable, they can be dropped off the day before.   Another option is to send with your student!

We’re also looking for coffee donations for the staff break room any time throughout the year:

  • K-Cup coffee pods
  • New/gently used coffee mugs or tumblers

$5 Gift cards to Target, Starbucks, Caribou, Fast food establishments, etc are a need.  They are handed out to students when staff “catches them in the act” of living out the SLP mission.  Have a few extras sitting around from the holidays?  Why not donate today!  Or grab a few next time you’re in the check out lane.  Thanks!

$25 Gift cards to local establishments are also appreciated.  Gift cards are used to honor exceptional staff contributions.  Drop off any time in main office and label as Staff Appreciation.

Thanks for supporting our students and educators!

Go Park!!
