Don't Forget Mom!

It’s almost time to celebrate one of the most important women in your life. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, on Sunday, May 14, this year.

History of Mother’s Day

  • The original idea of Mother’s Day was first conceptualized in 1870 by Julia Ward Howe when she wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation” to express her distress over deaths during the Civil War.
  • In 1905, in honor of the passing of her mother, Anna Jarvis declared she would dedicate a day to celebrate all mothers. She began contacting congressmen and, as a result, the U.S. Congress passed a bill in 1914 dedicating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
